UPDATE: Wolfe, Snead Advance to Muskego's April Ballot in 1st District
Challenger Wolfe takes 60% of vote, more than double that of incumbent Snead.
The three-way race for the aldermanic seat in Muskego's 1st District was pared down to two candidates Tuesday as Robert Wolfe and incumbent Tracy Snead advanced to the April 3 general election.
Final, unofficial results are as follows:
Robert Wolfe - 375 votes (60 percent)
Tracy Snead - 150 votes (24 percent)
Randall Hojnacki - 91 votes (15 percent)
The turnout was 24 percent, which is average for an aldermanic primary, but interest over the recent council vote to approve the purchase of land along the lake on Janesville Road for use as a park was expected to give the race extra attention.
Snead was one of four Common Council members who voted for the purchase of the land at a cost of $3.55 million, which may have had an impact on her showing at the ballot box.
However, Snead did not feel her second-place showing was related to the lake park issue, which divided the common council 4-3 and has led to calls for recalling other aldermen who voted "yes" who are not on the ballot this year.
"Really, I had been so busy with matters on the council that I know we did not campaign as heavily as the other candidates," Snead said. "Now it's time for the issues to come forth and for people to decide on the facts."
Wolfe said he was "overwhelmed" at the results, and that he was "absolutely very thankful to my supporters."
"Like many of you I am just a hard working family guy hoping to make a difference, without your vote this would not have been possible," he said in a statement to voters. "I want to personally say 'thank you.' I will continue to focus on the issues facing Muskego."
Despite the disappointing finish, Hojnacki said he was still glad he threw his hat in the ring.
"I have to thank my supporters — I learned a lot, and I'm glad I did this," he said. Although he would not elaborate on what his first foray into politics taught him, he did lend his support to the incumbent.
"I would ask those who supported me, if they care about Muskego, to vote for Snead in April," he said.
A candidates forum is scheduled for March 20, where voters can hear Wolfe and Snead debate the issues. Patch will have details on the forum as they become available.

Forget Snead's vote on the proposed lake park...when you place your campaign signs all over the city like you're running for Mayor, I can see why the results turned out the way they did.

Aaron,
I can definitely agree with you on that. I was seeing Wolfe signs all the way west by Kwik Trip. I didn't know that District 1 includes all of Muskego.
Even though I don't live in District 1, Alderman Snead has the experience and vision for this city that will help her in the long run. Supporters will say that she made a great vote with the park project -- she was looking towards the city's future. The opposition will vote for Wolfe based on her lake park vote, and I think that's unfair to her. Hopefully these two candidates (along with the others) will have the chance to debate one another.

That's a good idea. The next office he should run for is Mayor.

I also think that your statement about the opposition not voting for her because of her vote for the park being unfair doesn't make any sense. She voted for the park even though the people told her they don't want it. What's unfair is her ignoring what the people want & doing what she wants!!!!!!!

Mr. Wolfe: Had you been an Alderperson, would you have voted Yes or No to purchasing the Lake Park land? Would you have placed this project on a referendum prior to purchasing the land?

Mr. Robertson, correct me if I am wrong, but don't district 1 resident's have the ability to go about as they please throughout all district's of Muskego? That sounds like a smart candidate to me! I can guarantee you on any given day that at least 70% of district 1 resident's leave their district and drive down Janesville Road and Racine Avenue to go to the grocery store, the bank, drop children off at school or to go to work, etc.
Bryan, you said and I quote "The opposition will vote for Wolfe based on her lake park vote, and I think that's unfair to her." EVERYONE should have the opportunity for their voice to be heard, that is not unfair, that is politics. People have different beliefs and choose candidates with values and beliefs in line with their own.

Congrats to Rob. I have two signs in my yard and am not in district 1.
Yesterday's results clearly show that the 4 yes votes and the mayor's support for the "PARK OF ALL PARKS" will be their political downfall. Snead didn't get 25%of the 622 votes....pretty much a done deal..looks like their will be some justice for the 3450 signatures that somehow don't matter to the 4 aldermen/women.......

Abigail,
you're right everyone has the choice to vote how they want....problem is she was selected to represent the people....and when you stop representing them...you end up getting voted out of office......you know for the people, by the people, of the people....polictics..101....listen to the people who elected you.....and use common sense.....we need an Applebee's! and new school......increase property values by increasing demand for our houses......the "PARK OF ALL PARKS" won't solve any of our problems......good luck Rob....you will have no problem in April...

We need an Applebees? Really? The one in New Berlin is too far for you? And since when do Aldermen get to petition restaurants to come to the city? Your post made sense until you added that
Mr. Lex

Snead said she didn't campaign much. So It's clear the voters voted on her record which no one likes. You won't have any problems in April Mr. Wolfe our next Alderman. We all think it's time for someone who has our interests at hand to step up & that person is Mr. Wolfe. Also I think that any reporter that writes a article should not be blogging on it. Konkol you are suppose to be impartial which you clearly aren't.

Checking on the details of the candidates forum, and stupidly I saw the Exec. Director of the Chamber (one of the sponsors) earlier and I forgot to ask her. Usually it's Brett from WCTC, but we'll get that confirmed. Place and time, as well as if the county supervisor candidates will be participating is also something we will confirm. I want to thank everyone that voted and supported me in yesterday's election. My hope is that the residents of District 1 will fully research both candidates and their past posted views on the various blogs to understand each of the candidate's vision for the future of Muskego before the April election. Cities are competing hard against one another for business. Muskego has the opportunity along with a plan to keep us vibrant and a destination where families want to live, work, shop and play. Your vote could decide the future fate of this community for many years to come. Randall Hojnacki

There are two winners in a non-partisan primary. Which of the two got more votes in this election is irrelevant. At this point it is inappropriate for any of the candidates but Mr.Hojnacki to make a comment (and he made a very good one at that).
Mr.Hojnacki, thank you for stepping forward and taking the time to run.
Ms. Snead and Mr. Wolfe, good luck in April.

Please don’t make unfounded comments, my wife and I were at the polling station at closing and both of us congratulated one of the winners in last night’s primary in person, wishing that person the best in April.
I also made a statement last night, which appeared on the Patch this morning, supporting one of the candidates.
Please don’t question my integrity or personal professionalism during this election cycle or in any future election, especially behind the veil of the internet cloud.

Provide ONE quote and link where Mr. Hojnacki was "behind the veil of the internet cloud with a fake name".
As for supporting Snead, he has every right to endorse the person he feels is best that is still in the race.
And what's with the "Last Place" comment. You, and others, are beginning to paint a pretty clear picture of Mr. Wolfe's supporters, and it's not pretty.

Sorry everyone, I do want to congratulate both winners in Tuesday's election via the Patch. If Mr. Wolfe was at the polling station on Tuesday evening to hear the election results, both me and my wife would have shook his hand in congratulations also, just as we did for Tracy Snead.
I did wish Mr. Wolfe luck in the election, when we met at City Hall some time ago. I also sent out emails wishing both candidates well in the primary election, before it was held. Unfortunately Mr. Wolfe’s emails were returned to me, because he changed email address without my knowledge. I wish both candidates well in the weeks ahead. This was a learning experience for me, which I hope to use towards my election run in April for the newly opened Waukesha County Supervisor position for District 23. Everyone, please be aware, not only was the Aldermanic districts redrawn, but so were the Waukesha County Districts. My supporters and others still have the opportunity to vote for me on the April 3rd ballot.
By The Way, the question about my screen name that someone raised, it’s part of my heritage, especially my mother’s father (my grandfather), who gave up everything and risked his life to come to America, which allowed me and my family to live here and vote in a free society.
P.S. Everyone have a Great snow day. Watch for my new signs. Randall Hojnacki
