Chamber Rolls Out Randy

Barrel man mascot just the start of events designed to have a little fun with road construction.

The Muskego Chamber of Commerce and Tourism literally rolled out their mascots, which will stand at either end of the Janesville Corridor slated for construction later this summer.  They are part of the "Jammin' on Janesville" celebrations planned for the first Fridays in June, July and August from 5 - 9 p.m.

The pair of "Randy Roadbots" as the mascots were named were designed by local manufacturer Alpha Plastics Solutions and president Tim Hogan, who had "more fun doing this than we thought possible," according to events coordinator Denise Konkol. They stand approximately nine feet tall, and will be moved to their locations in the next few days where they will remain for the duration of the events.

Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti, former Executive Director of the chamber of commerce, also spoke briefly along with Allison Bussler, Waukesha County Director of Public Works.  Bussler acknowledged "the inherent disruption that comes with road construction" and offered the county's support in helping to make the process as smooth as possible.

Konkol estimated that at least 40 to 50 businesses will ultimately take part in the first event, scheduled for June 3.  Activities are left up to each business, but many will be offering live entertainment, food, kids and family activities and discount opportunities. She called the event, "unprecedented, but then again the road construction project planned here is unprecedented in the county."

She also stated the importance for community support of businesses during construction, as many fear the impact could mean a 20 percent reduction in their business.

"While many have told us they want to wait and see what happens with this first event, we're trying to stress that involvement from the start will mean an even bigger turnout in July and August."
