Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

For GOP Insiders, Romney's Tax Returns Aren't a Taxing Issue

Patch conducted its second Red Wisconsin survey, and a resounding majority of Wisconsin Republicans insiders said Mitt Romney has no reason to release more than his 2010 and 2011 tax returns.

Tax returns may be serious business for the Internal Revenue Service, but in the realm of politics they’re irrelevant to political discourse — so long as there is no wrongdoing.

That's the overwhelming consensus of Wisconsin Republican insiders who took part in Patch's latest "Red Wisconsin" Survey. More than 80 percent of party leaders and activists surveyed made it clear that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has no reason to release more of his personal income tax returns than he already has.

Democrats — and even some members of the Republican Party — have demanded that Romney release additional years of tax returns beyond 2010 and 2011 that he already has made public. (Copies of his returns are attached to this article)

Adding to the taxation aggravation, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday refused to back down from his earlier accusation that Romney hadn’t paid taxes for over a decade. Reid said he received the tip from an unnamed source who invested with Bain Capital.

But for Patch’s group of Wisconsin Republican Party insiders, the hullabaloo surrounding Romney’s tax returns is just a red herring distracting citizens from the real issues at hand in November's election.

"Additional time spent on his tax returns reduces the amount of time we spend on the economic and foreign policy mistakes made by Obama.”

A resounding 83 percent of respondents said Romney shouldn’t release additional years of tax returns to the public. Just 11 percent claimed he should release additional returns, and 5 percent were undecided.

Patch sent questionnaires to 93 key party activists, elected officials, conservative bloggers and talk show hosts, and others who agreed to anonymously give their opinions in a series of surveys between now and November. Patch received completed surveys from 77 people — or 83 percent of those surveyed.

Among those who have agreed to participate in the survey are state Reps. Jeff Stone, Dan Knodl, Mark Honadel and Don Pridemore; Mark Green, former congressman and U.S. ambassador; Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas; and conservative radio talk show hosts Charles Sykes and Jeff Wagner.

Dems Are Going Fishing

For the Wisconsin Republicans surveyed, the debate over Romney’s tax returns is just another political game of gotcha before November. To them, tax returns are irrelevant to a candidate’s qualifications and are a personal matter. They claim it's another tactic to distraction voters and mask Obama's own inadequacies.

“(Romney) has released everything that is necessary to inform the public,” said one insider. “Everything is in order. No issues. Additional time spent on his tax returns reduces the amount of time we spend on the economic and foreign policy mistakes made by Obama.”

Added another: "Romney has complied with all pertinent campaign disclosure requirements. If the American public finds the law lacking, than we should change the law. Besides, Romney has been running for president for about a decade. I find it very hard to believe that all of a sudden, 100 days before the election, that his tax returns are the one last thing we need to see before voting."

Wisconsin Republican influencers say those foreign policy and economic mistakes by Obama are the issues that matter — not tax returns. Roughly 78 percent of Patch insiders surveyed believed Romney’s tax returns are not an issue that matters to voters. Furthermore, 85 percent of those surveyed said the tax return debate will have no impact on the election.

“These are the most current (tax returns). The Dems are making much ado about nothing,” said one insider.

So what's all the fuss about?

Insiders believe the debate regarding Romney’s tax returns is simply another way for Democrats to throw a political barb. No matter what option Romney chooses, many insiders feel he’s caught in a Catch-22 created by the Democrats.

“There’s no upside for (Romney). He will get raked over the coals for making a lot of money if he does — and possibly more bad press if he doesn’t release them,” said another insider.

But the small minority of insiders, just 11 percent, who were in favor of releasing more tax returns claim Romney has nothing to lose through transparency.

“If he doesn’t have anything to hide, why not? What’s he got to lose? Everyone knows he’s rich,” said one respondent.

One insider said Romney could even turn the tables on Democrats by releasing more tax returns. That person claimed it could give the presidential hopeful a platform to expose the faults in the current tax code and demonstrate that he’s a candidate serious about tax reform.

Show Me Yours, I’ll Show You Mine

Another revelation from the latest Red Wisconsin Survey is that most GOP insiders are quite familiar with the definition of hypocrisy. Many asked why Obama isn’t transparent about personal matters himself.

“Transparency should apply to both sides, and quite frankly I’m not sure why it’s important to scrutinize one candidate, while ignoring the other,” one insider pointed out. “Maybe when Obama releases his academic records, passport, and other records we can talk about it.”

For years, Republicans have demanded to see personal records from Obama’s past. And in mid-July, sheriffs in Arizona claimed they had proven Obama’s birth certificate was a forgery.  The White House released the birth certificate in question back in 2011.

“The Obama administration will not comply with releasing records from the Obama’s past, why should Governor Romney or the Romney campaign comply with his request?” one survey respondent asked.

Patch will be conducting Red Wisconsin and Blue Wisconsin surveys throughout 2012 in hopes of determining the true sentiment of conservatives and liberals on the ground in the Badger State.

If you are an activist, party leader or elected official and would like to take part in a weekly survey that lasts just a few minutes, please email Regional Editor Mark Maley at mark.maley@patch.com.

The first Red Wisconsin Survey, Patch asked its group of insiders who the top Republican candidate was to take on Tammy Baldwin for the U.S. Senate seat.

Of course it is not a big deal. What a shock. They wish the fascination about Romney's cloistered returns would go away, but the longer Willard sits on this info the bigger it becomes along with our imaginations of what's in the tax returns. And our imaginations are going to get infectious out to the general public.

Keith, I agree. The issue is starting to fester. We know Romney has offshore accounts, we know he's rich. We also know that he did provide his tax returns to the McCain campaign prior to the 2008 elections; we do not know the level of influence that their contents may/may not have had on McCain's (official) choice of Sarah Palin as running mate. The refusal to re-submit them, this time for public scrutiny, is more interesting than a consistent refusal, in my opinion. What stops Romney from just coming out, as GWB and Clinton did, and saying, "I've made mistakes, but learned from them?" I believe those admissions helped them politically.

1) Maybe with the shaving of his income he isn't tithing to extent he should to the LDS?

But here's the juiciest.

2) He will have taken advantage of so many tax breaks that once they are revealed, the public will be so turned off that any more offered by the GOP in homage to rich bastards will be met with a tidal wave of revulsion and rejection.

So he may still get dumped in Tampa. Nobody likes the guy.

I would not call you a "moron" because that is an insult to individuals born with physical/developmental disabilities, but since you rate the intelligence of liberals, I would grade you a 5 on a scale of 1-10 (ten being highest and 5 being average). Your prose is pedestrian and your attitudes inflexible. There is capacity but also intellectual laziness, offering limited challenge in discourse. It's unfortunate that you would vote for a candidate that refuses to follow the precedent set by every modern presidential candidate, including his own father, and share more than 1.5 years of tax returns.

Greg, in the words of Catharine of Aragon, "I have no peers." ; )

I appreciate your awareness of my intentional repetition of concepts (see, there's that "potential!"). When working with people who are hard-wired for intellectual inflexibility it is necessary to repeat information numerous times. Studies show 7 repetitions are required to begin the process of concept saturation. There are physical aspects of cognition (perhaps a loose analogy is the conformation/hp of a car), i.e. "nature," but also learned patterns of behavior ("nurture") that stifle intellectual curiosity and development. These learned behaviors begin very early, not only in extreme cases of abusive upbringing, but in ordinary households, too. where creativity is dismissed or discouraged.

Intellectual and creative laziness were abhorred in my family and the guilty were/are roundly abused! If we weren't reading a book, practicing an instrument, art-making, creative writing, etc. in free time, we'd get an assignment. I was reading simple books when I started school at the age of 4. Are we a family of geniuses? The one who takes IQ/EQ tests as a hobby is, the rest of us actually have things to do. ; ) I would suggest that I/we were trained to make the most of what we have! So I'll rate myself a work-in-progress. How's that? ; )

However the timing was right, and in a moment of weakness my aversion to car shopping won out over principle. It was assembled in the U.S. and jobs are needed. I'm inclined to appreciate Toyota's hiring U.S. workers at a time when so many U.S. companies have and continue to ship jobs overseas.

Harry Reid (D-Nevada) has asserted that a source has come forward stating that Romney took advantage of an offshore account asylum offered to people who hadn't been disclosing their full income over time (a felony). We all know Romney is rich as Midas and that much of his wealth came from Bain business practices, including the controversial period of 1999-2002 (an intense period of corporate raiding and a time that Romney claims he was no longer in charge of the company. Questions have been raised because paperwork and stated remarks over time have seemed to contradict this). The American public doesn't need tax returns to know Romney is rich, but I think they/we have a right to know the facts since the guy wants to be our president.

Mitt, did you receive asylum from the U.S. Government over non-disclosure of income of foreign bank accounts? Were you CEO of Bain during its most rapacious period, and if so, why have you said you weren't?

If Reid's source is credible enough, then Reid knows he would need to take it to the IRS and let them handle it. I think we all know from Harry Reid's past record that this is just another attempt to make Mitt Romney, who is a saint by comparison to Barack Hussein Obama, look less appealing to voters.

Reid also knows that, if Romney had indeed committed a felony and falsified his IRS returns, releasing those returns would do nothing to confirm or refute the accusation. The ONLY reason Harry Reid wants Romey's tax returns released is to try and create an image of Romney being disconnected from the rest America because of his wealth.

Amazingly, Reid himself will not release his tax returns. In his case, it is because he does not want the public to see not only how much it is, but where it comes from!

I don't believe that a presidential candidate is legally required to submit tax returns, but to deviate from decades of precedent is interesting. As indicated previously, his extensive wealth is known. He has self-identified as much, discussed tithing, hobbies, possessions in some detail. The proffered excuse that people would look for things in the returns suggests there is something more to find. Why not a nice, tidy "mea culpa?" and be done with it?

I understand that sources have come forward stating that Reid was at Penn State and helped assault underage boys.

We all know that Reid has grown ultra wealthy from his work on Nevada gambling boards, leveraging his insider knowledge of real estate. We all have a right to know how a schlmiel like Dirty Harry became a ultra-rich in career as a civil servant (laugh).

Obama bought his house with the assistance of a convicted fraudster and briber Tony Rezko. We all have a right to know the specifics that sweet real estate deal. Also how were Obama's undergraduate college grades? Why did he give up his law degree? How did Obama get his Senate (Jack Ryan's) rival's sealed divorce records? When did Obama legally change his name from Soetoro? Why does a book jacket published in 1991 describe Obama as being from Kenya?

The sad fact is that this issue will dog Romney for the rest of the campaign. If he refuses to release them Reid will just shout louder that he is right about Romney not paying taxes. If he releases them and they are harmless everyone will ask why he didn't release them sooner. If they have dirt in them then the Democrats will gleefully run with it. I predict Romney will continue to stonewall and Dems will continue to make hay about it right to the bitter end.

The only logical defense against an attack on military service was to review that of the opponent. My father is a veteran of Korea and I believe him when he says medals aren't handed out like candy. Brian Dey is clearly indulging in mockery rather than making an effort to advance the discourse, so I give his comments the level of seriousness deserved.

Would anyone here have a problem with Romney if he confessed that he had taken a proffered asylum? I'm not voting for Romney but will be living in this country whether or not he is elected. I have several relatives and acquaintances who have had IRS issues due to accounting errors--things happen and that doesn't bother me. But the idea of actively trying to avoid the full responsibility of every income-generating American, that of paying taxes, does make me question the level of patriotic commitment, regardless of who it is. I recently read a report which stated that nearly 2,000 Americans/year give up their citizenship to avoid paying taxes. Good riddance to them I say. Let's see how well that works for them if God forbid they find themselves in a situation where having a U.S. passport can save a lot of trouble.

Romney almost surely did not cheat on his income taxes. That is not the issue.
But there is a difference between what is legal and what is ethical and what is best for America in general as perceived by the voter.
Romney's fear is that there is a growing group of voters becoming more aware of the tax rules encouraging the export of jobs, offshore accounts, and a plethora of tax breaks for the super-rich. Vulture capitalism is not pretty, and decisions are not made on what is best for most Americans.
If I was advising Romney, I would not release anything except tax returns when he knew he was probably going to be a Presidential candidate, and had tuned his recent tax returns to look less like a typical Wall Street tycoon. That release has been done, and I would not expect any more tax returns being released, and certainly none from his Bain Capital days.
Romney's richy rich lifestyle and his religion that conflicts dramatically with traditional Christianity are problems enough for many voters.

IT's not only lower labor costs that encourage moving jobs off shore. It's why labor cost are lower and the gross lower cost of doing business.
At the top - as Romney pointed out last week in Israel - is health care costs. Mitt made the point that Israel's healthcare costs are only 8% of their GDP and USA's is 18%. (this is typical of all other industrial countries except the USA) Thus at the top, business costs in other countries are 10% less then here because of our lack of a single payer system like Medicare for everyone.
A persons health and medical care should come first. First before cost considerations. I bet you all feel this way especially when it comes to yourself and your family members. <>
So the real question is - what's wrong with Romneycare that has and is proving further, to keep health & medical costs from increasing as they were before the Affordable Care Act? <>

80 percent of Republicans know that what used to be called journalists are now the PR branch of the Democratic Party.

You sent platoons of journalists to Wasilla AK to investigate a pretty common-folk, successful governor and fail to vet a candidate with a unique background who spent 20 years attending a hate America church. Now you want Romney's records so you can root about in them, but we still don't know about Obama's relationship to confessed terrorist Bill Ayers nor about how 300 mexicans were killed with weapons that Obama's BATF ordered law-abiding gunsellers to sell to straw buyers.

You must be thinking of the people that commit larceny, run scams, hack computer systems, etc., and then "reform" and write books about how they did it and what for the reader should guard against. red - Possibly one of the most tired and weak arguments you can present these days is that journalists are run by the Democrats. Oh come on, the "liberal media" argument is long dead. The average voter is much more likely to listen to Fox News, Rush, or Christian radio "news" than read the NY Times, which really is not that liberal, or even any newspaper beyond the local newspaper, maybe. Pretty sure you find plenty of conservative "news" material on the Internet. Exactly what liberal journalism are you referring to that is unfairly influencing America?

CNN: Will the Last Viewer Please Turn Out the Lights? CNN was down double digits across the board in July. Compared to July 2011, the network is -20% in Total Viewers and -23% in A25-54 in Total Day. In primetime, CNN is down -23% in Total Viewers and -26% in the demographic.

The net loss was $88.1 million, or 60 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $119.7 million, or 79 cents a share

But when it comes to the Democratic demographic - innercity, depends wearers, upper class elites they overwhelmingly are watching the Bigs. ohhh ohhh, what is Katie Couric doing tonite!!!!

red - You are apparently believing that objective reporting is unfair. You have your Fox, Rush, Christian Radio, and the many, many rightwing hate radio agitators for the kind of journalism you are looking for. No one is forced these days to 3 TV networks and 4 radio networks like years ago. There are hundreds of TV cable and thousands of radio stations as well as thousands of magazines, and newspapers, as well as many, many websites dealing with politics. That many of your "liberal" newsources are going broke just helps make the point that news is becoming more rightwing. And maybe if your extreme views were more in tune with mainstream America, there would be less room for the media to easily trash wild, stupid ideas. Wild. stupid ideas make great news fodder.

Republican senators “stood firm with Mitt Romney and his 1 percent lobbyist friends” when they successfully filibustered the Bring Jobs Home Act yesterday, [July 19 2012] The bill would have cut taxes for U.S. companies that bring jobs and business operations back to the United States and end tax loopholes that reward companies that ship jobs overseas.

Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney's proposal to slash individual income taxes by 20 percent across-the-board would primarily boost the income of the wealthiest taxpayers, according to a nonpartisan analysis released on Wednesday.
The report by the centrist Tax Policy Center found that Romney's tax cuts would boost after-tax income by an average of 4.1 percent for those earning more than $1 million a year, while reducing by an average of 1.2 percent the after-tax income of individuals earning less than $200,000.

Wednesday was Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, and Americans flocked to the fast food restaurant in response to criticism of COO Dan Cathy's opposition to same-sex marriage. The photos of long lines and traffic jams reveal the extent of the restaurant's support--for ... traditional values for ,,, freedom of religious exercise and speech in the face of government intimidation. There are even rumors that Chick-fil-A set a new world record for sales in a single day, though the company has yet to release any sales numbers.

[Y]ou wouldn't know anything about the national phenomenon by reading the front pages of most of the country's leading newspapers. There's no mention of Chick-fil-A on the front pages of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and the Boston Globe. The front pages of USA Today, the Dallas Morning News, and the Houston Chronicle have small headlines about the restaurant, while Chick-fil-A's hometown paper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,.. And the front pages of major news websites are quiet in their coverage as well.

Inside..The L.A. Times has a news story, while the New York Times has an op-ed from the gay dean at the Georgia Tech business school encouraging Americans to let Chick-fil-A "fly free." The Washington Post ran a photograph, but no story.

Romney's income tax records are relevant for the simple reason that he and the GOP want to overhaul the tax system, giving millionaires larger tax breaks, while middle class Americans would lose the ability to deduct your mortgage interest and health insurance premiums.

Also, the Tax Policy Center (run by ex-Bush administration economist) just released a study showing Romney's plan would have to do just what I mentioned above and would be a negative impact on all middle and low income earners, but that upper income earners would stand to gain under his tax plan.

Not to mention that older tax records may show that he was still indeed a working CEO of Baine Capital during the 'Let's ship American jobs overseas" years.

Romney wants to eliminate the health insurance premium deduction from the federal income tax.

"Also, the Tax Policy Center (run by ex-Bush administration economist) just released a study showing Romney's plan would have to do just what I mentioned above and would be a negative impact on all middle and low income earners, but that upper income earners would stand to gain under his tax plan."

Not true at all - if spending is cut appropriately, which is also a cornerstone of Mitt's plan. If you're going to assess the plan, then do so as a whole, as opposed to cherry picking.

"Not to mention that older tax records may show that he was still indeed a working CEO of Baine Capital during the 'Let's ship American jobs overseas" years."

Yes Keith, the connections of the wealthy are the key point. I've seen it--one parental phone call and their kid, fresh out of college, has a job paying more than most adult
Americans are making after 20 years of sequentially-responsible employment. We got a glimpse of this with Brian Deschane, 20-something son of Walker donor Jerry Deschane. Brian was given a management job paying $81,500/year with no college education, 2 DWIs and no related job experience (the $81,500 came after a promotion after 2 months and a 26% pay rise). This is one example, there are many others:

"You know, I could run for governor and all this but I’m basically a media creation. I’ve never really done anything. I’ve worked for my dad. I worked in the oil industry. But that’s not the kind of profile you have to have to get elected to public office." George W. The issue is that in China, people will take jobs for $ .31/hour, as they do at FoxCon. They will sleep in dormitories and work 24-32 hour shifts. Communist China treats people like fodder. When greed overtakes the mind and soul of an individual I believe they lose their humanity, like an addict subsumed by addiction. The traumatic loss identity, economic security, self-confidence and self-respect that accompanies a job loss for profit is no longer of concern. The continuing and exacerbated exploitation of an oppressed people is no longer of concern. All that matters is getting more money, more power, more influence. It's not a rational thing we are dealing with here, it is a sickness I am convinced.

So then, if Obama's the answer, then why hasn't he supported a punitive tax that would penalize moving jobs overseas and tariffs on imported goods made with exploited labor that would equalize the playing field for US manufacturing/industry? He's had nearly four years to do this, two years with a solid Congressional majority. Instead, of focusing on jobs, as he promised to do, he focused on using most of his political capital on a health care plan that violated many of his own campaign promises regarding such and a stimulus that he laughingly admitted wasn't "as shovel-ready as we expected."

Jimmy, you can act so naive every so often.

The Great White Hope is drawing interest from Bain and it's not like they kicked his ass out the door, so I am sure he could say something. But he won't, because then every time they want to outsource jobs people would be on Mitt to do it. And Anne won't want him sullying himself with the little people.

That haircutting incident in prep school is very indicative of his regard for people, and usually electing a sociopath to lead this country is not a good idea. Run the tax calculations and discover the haircut he'll be giving you. And unless you to are living on carried interest, you are going to get porked royally.

Of course we all get stuck with all the social costs when jobs get sent overseas, so a handful of people can make a ton of money. Therefore taxes should be raised on these people to pay for the mess they leave behind. Isn't that what Chuckie Sykes calls responsibility and preaches about constantly, or is that only for poor minorities?

Mr. Hoffa, you know as well as everyone else posting here that such a measure would never get through Congress. The majority of that body no longer represents the will of the people but the will of Big Money/special interests.

My Republican father promises that Social Security and Medicare will always be there for the people, that Paul Ryan is just blowing smoke to build his career. But Mitt Romney says he will enact the Paul Ryan budget plan if he is elected. That's of far greater concern to me than whether the guy got a tax asylum or got a tax deduction for a horse that's higher than the average American salary, at the end of the day. Both programs were developed to fight senior poverty. I don't want our country's longevity rates to drop and mortality rates among industrialized nations to rise just because some people think that older Americans are throw away Americans.

It would appear that whenever things got tough, Obama preferred to check-out and get high instead of facing his problems and challenges head on. Definitely not a characteristic that one wants in their commander in chief, is it? And yet, for some strange reason you're OK with this. That's pretty messed up in Hoffa's opinion!

"Run the tax calculations and discover the haircut he'll be giving you. And unless you to are living on carried interest, you are going to get porked royally."

Where exactly are you getting this stuff from - the Daily Kos?

Direct from Romney's website, his individual income tax plan:

"Make permanent, across-the-board 20 percent cut in marginal rates
Maintain current tax rates on interest, dividends, and capital gains
Eliminate taxes for taxpayers with AGI below $200,000 on interest, dividends, and capital gains
Eliminate the Death Tax
Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)"

Everyone gets a 20% cut in their marginal rate. And the poor guy won't have to pay any taxes on cap gains, interest, or dividends. Death Tax and ATM gone. You're going to see A LOT of upward mobility under this tax plan!

Direct from Obama's website, his individual income tax plan:

"That's why President Obama proposed the Buffett Rule, asking millionaires and billionaires to do their fair share. But if you're one of the 98 percent of American families who make under $250,000 a year, your taxes won’t go up."

His plan isn't very specific, lacking detail. No tax cuts for anyone, and the successful have to pay more. Not sure what he's going to do with cap gains, interest, dividends.

BTW - There is nothing about taxing out-sourcers more anywhere on Obama's tax page.

Those are the FACTS Schmitzy. Romeny - everyone gets a tax break! Obama - no one gets a tax break and Obamacare is one of the largest tax increases in modern history, that will impact the wallet of the middle class the hardest, as confirmed by the SCOTUS.

Mr. Kissinger, a former Republican secretary of state, remains on the sidelines. The reason, according to several Republicans familiar with the matter: concerns about Mr. Romney’s aggressive statements on trade policy toward China, a keen issue for Mr. Kissinger, who helped reopen relations with China and who later, as a consultant, has had clients with significant interests there.
As Republican leaders fell in behind Mr. Romney this spring, many members of the party’s foreign policy establishment have been more muted. If you really want to find out for yourself, like a big boy, try reading the actual bill as opposed to taking a third party analysis as gospel, as you so often seem to do!

Romney has decided that it’s less damaging for voters to know he’s is hiding something than it would be for voters to know specifically what’s being hidden.

If pre-convention republicans don't read that as a red warning flag, they must need reading glasses.

Good People. this is not about tax returns, it is about the system of tax legislation that allows the wealthy to take deductions from income that the middle class cannot. the legal and unregulated methods used by Mr. Romney are the same used by all those in his income bracket. the income tax code needs reform and moderate simplicity. but who does congress want to do this ? the lobby for the wealthy. we want the wealthy to keep their money but not to shield the money from a fair amount of taxes. Now the problem: when you run for president of the united states of america you must open the door to your entire life before it is too late.

First of all, this poll by the Patch is a ridiculous waste of time and journalistic space. There is nothing new to be learned. Everyone who has the least inkling of the issues knows the outcome of such a poll.

The bigger issue is the one of attempting to drive a wedge between the wealthy established conservatives and the working and middle class conservatives. The target for all of this hoopla is the independent right leaning working class voter. I think that the tactic over Mitt's tax returns is going to have zero impact on the targeted group. Although wealth is important it is not the primary driver of this voting group. What drives them is social conservatism issues and an anti-liberal bias. Mitt has all of the correct social conservative positions and that's what really counts.

Mitt Romney is a carefully created character that has passed the social conservative smell test. The credentials that count for them is, anti-abortion, anti-contraceptive, never divorced, etc. This is Mitt Romney's credentials to be president.

Bernie, there were a number of issues with the Bring Jobs Home Act. These were a big concern for the Republican's, and since Harry Reid was not going to allow ANY of the Rep. amendments to advance, they had no choice but to filibuster.
1) Tax credits would be given for automated plants
(how many jobs would that bring home?)
2) A company could first start up a company or factory overseas, then immediately shut it down and bring the operations over to the US in order to get the tax credit.

The fact that Reid refuted to allow a true debate is what killed this bill. Much of it had bipartisan support, but Generalissimo Harry refused to allow a truly democratic function to proceed!

Have we forgotten that in this democracy of the melting pot of the world, does not only illuminate the various immigrants that came to our shores. It is also the melting pot of a multitude of political philosophers from different regions of the world. We The People have incorporated various positions of these philosophers‘. Such as; Aristotle ,Immanuel Kant, John Stewart Mills, John Rawls, John Lock, Jeremy Bentham to name a few. Melting pot of various political ideologies’ as well. Utilitarianism, Libertinism, socialism, communism, liberalism, capitalism again to name a few. All of these ingredients are constantly being stirred about in our pot. Democracy is our abilities to consent to incorporate various ingredients, that We The People consider ideal. Picking and choosing only which parts we desire to remain in our pot and eliminating the dregs. So far this has risen in a short amount of time to be a world power. Liberalism and conservatism are the instruments we use as the tools to keep the pot at just the right flavor.
Presently the brew has attained a bitter cronyism taste. Would be prudent to remove some of those dregs once again. It is the moral imperative for the chef’s coinsurer’s taste for a well balanced Ala Democracy Soufflés’ .

When you run for public office, exposing your private life goes with the territory. Is Romney ashamed of being rich or is that he's ashamed of how he made his money or what loopholes he dodged into to not have to pay his fair share? Just because something is legal doesn't make it the right thing to do. These decisions tell us a lot about the character of a man or woman. As a culture, we are pretty simple-minded. We say: "Oh look...there's a picture of Mitt Romney wearing a yarmulke at the wailing wall. He must be very pro-Israel. Oh look, there's Romney with his sleeves rolled up. He must be a friend of the working man. A baseball cap would get the farm vote and an Indian bonnet means the Native American's troubles are over. Millions of dollars are spent on these silly images for the ads because the average voter is not in the least respected by the candidates. We are that easily manipulated. We "like" the candidate's image we are allowed to see. Dumbest thing of all...we'll fight to the death on behalf of "our" candidate. We'll alienate friends and family alike who don't believe the way we do. Conservatives talk about "sheeple"? The whole electoral process makes us that way. For once, give the people the truth, instead of substanceless images. Trust us with info. that is currently only limited to insiders, and let us make truly informed decisions. What can possibly be learned from Romney's taxes that would at all impact the true issues in this race? Why doesn't Obama give us specifics about what he'd do if given another 4 years? Why hasn't Obama admitted that his healthcare legislation represents one of the largest tax increases in modern history and that the brunt of the impact of such will be felt by the middle class, as confirmed by the SCOTUS? Apparently, you're unaware as to how exactly our election process works. PAC donors get only 1 vote per person, per race, that they are jurisdictionally qualified to participate in, which is exactly the same as what the "average American" gets. No more, no less.

So how exactly can a PAC donor effectively buy the election process? They have no more power than the "average American" individual does. And seeing as how there are far more "average Americans" than PAC donors, it would appear as if the the "average Americans" do indeed have the upper hand here, doesn't it?

Hoffa...Being "immature" keeps me young. If all that anonymous money donated by PACs didn't buy them something the average voter does NOT get, why in the heck would they give it? Unlike you, I wasn't born yesterday. Millions of dollars for their one vote? Give me a break! You seem to expect more from teachers, in the way of being logical, than you expect of yourself. More political crap goes on behind closed doors than you, in particular, would imagine. How do you and I get inside? Money, honey.

@Dave -

Perhaps they donate for the same reason small "average Americans" like you and Hoffa might donate to political causes - because they believe in something??? Nah, that couldn't be it! It has to be because they want something direct in return.

When someone like you or Hoffa gives $250, it could very well represent close to 1% of our yearly take home pay, assuming a $40k annual gross. When someone like the Koch Bros gives $10M, it represents .02% of their net worth. Who do you honestly think is expecting more from their respective contributions here?

Under your logic, Obama, who has a significantly lower net worth than Romney, is more apt to being bought off by outside big money interests, right? Plus we already saw the crony capitalism from the Obama administration - Solyndra ring any bells? Or how about the GM and Chrysler deals - behind closed doors with the UAW, Italians, and Canadians. The way Bush had the auto bailout structured, it was to be a straight up, interest bearing loan with a controlled repayment schedule and security interest in assets, just as Carter had done it with the successful Chrysler/Iacocca bailout in 1979. The Obama hanky-panky wasn't necessary at all, except to repay his crony friends!

But hey, that's the kind of crap that you apparently support going on in DC. Personally, Hoffa's had enough of that kind of BS!

James Hofa and your brother and your other brother;
What are you smoking your one of your other brothers? A single individual has the same effect on a candidate, a vote, a policy is so lopsided ignorance require no answerer. Anyone with just a tad of intelligence can see through such an ILLIOGICAL ranting your on.
http://youtu.be/2Ux8Q3XC98U Your other two brothers must be ashamed of you.

Do Dave Koven and Bernard Forand not have a "Reply" tab, like the rest of us? The random placement of their disheveled comments is getting hard to follow.

Hoffa...my complaint refers to both party's use of super PAC money. There's too much secrecy involved. As for the donors "believing in something"? Oh yes, they believe in something all right. They believe in maintaining their own lifestyle and values, and the heck with anyone who doesn't agree with them. The Koch brothers' 10 million gets far more doors open to it than your and my $250 does. If you don't see this, so be it. It would be nice if the money donated could be publicly tied to what they want for it. Remember, you get nothing for nothing, particularly in American politics. (e.g. look how many signatures it takes on a petition to get ONE person in power to have to change their mind on some crummy decision they made that thousands or more have to suffer with. A big donor can walk right into a pol's office and have the ear of whoever is influential regarding the issue they're concerned about)) Your one vote? It's like the penny. They're more trouble than they're worth. P.S. Romney is still a phony dork, religion has no place in politics (just the Golden Rule), and I don't give a mouse's patoot if someone is gay, is in favor of, or had an abortion.

Jamie and his brood of Hofa’s. Observe the mentality that motivates such people. Speaks volumes of his integrity or more likely lack of. {“Obama, who has a significantly lower net worth than Romney, is more apt to being bought off by outside big money interests, right?”}
Now we know how the HOFA”S decide to vote. The three monkeys could do better than these HOFA”S. Their logic in financial math is outstandingly ignorant.
HEY Jamie how much of those super pacs are stuffed with Chinese, Russian, Iranian, and so on and so on, monies? Supreme Court ruled that corporations are people to and can donate all they want with no disclosure.
Little wonder that foreign sovereignties have a corporation within the USA. LOL I wonder who do they want to win. Let the bidding begin…

Hofa some homework for you; http://youtu.be/Knqpgj0x7xY

Obama is the greatest source of evil and destruction of capitalism in American history. Anyone Romney puts on the ticket with him has my vote. Obama has to be politically flushed back into the sewer from which he crawled.

Why?
Because he made health & medical more accessible and affordable to Americans????
Why"?
Because he's trying to raise taxes on the wealthy 2% so we can get back to Clinton years of federal budget surpluses?
Ques Mr NObama 2012 (cute). Are you one of the 2%????
I bet not - so why will you vote for the 2%??????

Jamie and his brood of Hofa’s; says [“just as Carter had done it with the successful Chrysler/Iacocca bailout in 1979. The Obama hanky-panky wasn't necessary.”]
What is that nonsense about? Obama did lend the Auto Manufacturing and save Thousands of Jobs and the surrounding supporting Manufacturing’s. It was paid back with interest and is growing to add more Jobs on. It was the republicans at every step of the way naying, naying, naying. Even Mittens was singing right along with the naying , no, no leadership of the republicans.
Perhaps your brood of Hofa’s got turned around and your mixing it up with Eric Cantor? Eric and his Tea buddies get $ 300 Million and GIVE it to the Avondale shipyards, in Avondale Alabama, to SHUTDOWN! Something Tea Baggers like to do. SHUTDOWN, SHUTDOWN Hooorrraaahhhh! 5,000 to the unemployment lines. Foreclosures’ galore, families busted, credit gone, money gone. Surrounding supporting Manufacturing gone as well as their employees. OH by the way South Korea’s shipyards send their thanks.
OH yeah we know what the HOFA”s are all about. Support welfare to the record profiting oil companies, that paid no taxes, received $Millions in tax returns and DEMAND $ Billions in subsidies [welfare] and the price goes up.
I know how much you are disturbed about how the media treated Ron Paul so I got this clip for you. Ron Paul and the Media; http://youtu.be/5m76BOQ_2Hs YOUR WELCOMED.

You need to do better homework. Try expanding your sources beyond the Daily Kos for a start!

Until you get up to speed with the FACTS, there's not really a point in continuing a dialogue with you.
