Grants For Activism Loses Muskego Man's Vote
Recent controversial grant award leads this Muskego resident to question teachers' motives.
We should vote “NO” on the school referendum Tuesday November 8 not only because it was turned down last year, not only because it will raise taxes when the economy is in the tank and people are unemployed along with retirees who are seeing their savings diminish, but we have teachers seeking grants to teach first and second graders how to be “activists”.
Mark Belling discovered that Ms Burmesch and her colleagues sought and received a grant from the NEA for this purpose. Isn’t it true that Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals is still listed in “The Activist’s Library” on the NEA website? When our Superintendent responded to Mark Belling didn’t he state that he was not aware of the grant at all? If this is true what else isn’t he aware of? Would Math or English be dropped just to teach the students how to be Activists? We don’t need to spend the money now so vote “NO” on Tuesday.

I vote "NO". I pay enough taxes for Muskego schools now and for what, So I can get a phone call from a teacher telling me my child needs a tutor. When are these teachers going to start teaching again? Why do I have to pay $400 dollars for my child to go to summer school because the teacher could not teach the class. So I have to send them to another school district (Franklin) and my child passes with A's. Not bad, a $400 A grade. What happened to the no child should be left behind? Unfortunately I don't have the money to buy grades every year.

I voted no the first time and I am going to again. I have a kindergartener at Tess Corners, I know all the issues, not convinced.

I'm also planning to vote no tomorrow for many of the same reasons people already listed. But also because of other personal reasons that are still hurting me and left a permanent hole in one of my child's heart. Previous administrators and teachers went against their own rules and procedures to pacify a new teacher. After this incident and others, I have to truly wonder what the hidden purpose of our education system is sometimes. It seems like the three Rs are secondary. Bullying was rampant some years ago. A guidance counselor told my daughter to her face she'd never get into college. She not only graduated with a BA, she got her Masters and is working on her second Masters. So much for hope, maybe it's time for change.......look around and see what's happening. Who took over our schools and for what purpose?

I am voting NO as well.
As stated above, I voted NO the first time, and plan on doing it again.
What part of NO do these people not understand??
I am disgusted with the way things are being run in Muskego these days.
Oh and don't forget about the $18 million dollar "fund" we have in Muskego?? For roof and furnace repairs...really??? Where do you think that money came from?? Bingo...taxpayers in this town. I think we've all been taxed ENOUGH here in Muskego.
Make sure to get out and VOTE tomorrow and tell everyone you know to vote.
This is OUR community ! We deserve to be heard !

My vote is no also !
Isn't the School board suppose to be working for US?? They are the people's voice and I'd like to know when they are going to start working for US??
I agree, look around people and see what's happening !

Too bad we don't see this same level of consternation from the "no- we can't support this - taxes are too high" crowd as the City of Muskego exploded our level of borrowing to support pretty houses on Pioneer Dr, a new park on the lake, and other, as yet undefined, slush fund items in the City's new budget.
Where's the outrage there? Or do we only have "no new taxes" backbone when it comes to the schools? If you're going to rail on this plan because of the poor economy, foreclosures, teachers want grant money, blah, blah, blah, then you better get your butts down to the Common Council meetings and show your "we can't afford this spending" nerve to your aldermen. Hmm? Yeah right I didn't think so.....
