UPDATE: Mayor Refutes Statements That She Signed Walker Recall Petition

Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti is being targeted in a recall petition effort, but says statements made to the public are false. Recall group responds, saying that they have not encouraged anyone to make these statements during door-to-door visits.

Several public officials, including Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti, have been by citizen-led group called Muskego for Ethical Government (MEG), but reports regarding statements made about the mayor during door-to-door collections have her crying foul.

Recent calls to the mayor's office prompted her to respond to residents' inquiries on whether she had signed the petition to recall Gov. Scott Walker from office.

"After being contacted by residents of Muskego, it has come to my attention that the recall group, Muskego for Ethical Government, is going door to door implying that I signed the Walker recall petition, and nothing could be further from the truth," she stated in a release. "This can be verified at http://www.putwisconsinfirst.com, and you will not find my signature on the Walker recall petition."

Patch also checked another online database of those who signed recall petitions — iVerifyTheRecall.com — and did not find the mayor's name.

Chiaverotti said she had received numerous emails and calls asking for clarification, prompting the formal response.

Lorie Oliver, spokesperson for the group, refuted the statements, saying "MEG has not encouraged and has strongly discouraged its  volunteers again making any such statement.   MEG has far more important issues with the Mayor and is not interested in whether or not she signed the Walker recall. "

She called the implication that she signed the Walker recall "absolutely ludicrous."

"If anybody has questions about my political loyalties they should feel free to contact me," she added.
