Memorial Planned for Evan Coubal

Death and life of 11-year-old Muskego boy will be remembered on a day to remember.

The time and place couldn't be more appropriate for a memorial planned for Evan Coubal, a Muskego boy at , who was 11 years old when he passed away on September 5, 2010 from a brain injury.

Acres of Hope and Aspirations, W147 S7138 Durham Place, will dedicate a stone garden bench at their Gardens of Hope. Acres is a rehabilitation facility assisting patients recovering from brain injury.  Coubal died shortly after he had hit his head on the playground at school, and about a week prior had suffered a concussion during a youth football game.

The date that Lisa Alberte, who runs the facility, and Evan's mother Mary chose was September 11, which for everyone is a day that evokes remembering. The grounds will be open from 1-3pm, with a memorial and dedication ceremony at 2pm.

The bench was designed by Christopher Lee Concrete Creations in Muskego, and anyone interested in assisting with the costs of the bench should contact Alberte.

"Evan’s spirit will stay alive in the Gardens of Hope at Acres of Hope & Aspirations making a difference to all who enter the grounds and bring awareness to the silent epidemic of brain injury," Alberte said. "A brain injury occurs every 19 seconds and changes, alters or takes a life."

The afternoon will also serve as an opportunity to reflect on those lives lost on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, and to honor those that served in Iraq War resulting from the terrorists’ acts of 9/11.

As the afternoon is also hoped to be a celebration of Evan's life, attendees can register to win bike helmets donated by Habush, Habush & Rottier Charitable funds.
