Muskego Common Council is Back, and So Is Lake Park Issue

Resolution makes a return as council is asked to reconsider the resolution that was approved to purchase Dilworth and Cherek properties.

The Muskego Common Council will meet at the venue obviously chosen to accommodate another large crowd. The school is located at the corner of Kelsey Drive and Crowbar Road on the city's southwest side, and the meeting will begin at 7pm on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

The item featured on the agenda is a reconsideration of the resolution, which proposed a purchase of property on Little Muskego Lake for $3.55 million. The council previously approved the resolution on a 4-3 vote. However, the vote was taken only after two previous amendments to table it and allow a referendum were defeated.

Since that meeting, citizens who had formed a political action committee, Muskego for Ethical Government, had mounted a petition drive and collected more than 3,400 signatures to force a referendum. The city had 15 days to verify the petition for direct legislation, and has an additional 30 days to respond to it.

The reconsideration is a discussion item, and will follow up a public input session that undoubtedly will bring residents out in large numbers again.
