'Tis The Season of Giving and Giving Back

The onset of the holidays brings plenty of opportunity to help out, right in your own backyard

We've started to see the signs of the season, and with the continuing struggles due to the lagging economy, many of these signs are asking for your help.

With your help, we'd like to keep a guide posted for anyone looking for a way to help others, whether it's a little time or a little money you have to invest.

Here's a start, and we'd love to add more that you know of, to keep the list as complete as possible.

Muskego Food Pantry - food donations, winter clothes, and helping hands are always welcome. 

Salvation Army Red Kettles are now in place around the area retailers, including , and others.  Spare change goes a long way when it's multiplied.

- Judy Wiedenkeller is the force behind this effort, which sends care packages to troops in Afghanistan, some 200 of them.  Dollars for shipping, and personal care and food items are welcome and can be dropped off at the Muskego Public Library.

Kohl's Cares for Kids - pick up a great Good Housekeeping Cookbook for only $5, and 100% of the net profit from the sale of this item will support kids' health and education initiatives in our communities.

Atonement Lutheran - a perusal of the church's latest newsletter indicates many organizations that they help, including Hope Center, All People's Church (every Tuesday from 4-6pm they provide big brother/sister support), and many more.

- this little farm has meant the world to many patients dealing with brain injury, and it takes a lot to keep the animals fed.

In memory of , where you can bring in a toy and get a game of bowling for free. A party on December 11 at noon will celebrate Evan's birthday and the culmination of the toy collecting for the .

Toys for Tots collection begins at November 14 - drop off a new unwrapped toy there through December 2.
