Mukwonago residents take a Ride on the Wild Side

Taking a toy animal for a ride: Cousins Andres Lemus (center), 6, of Muskego, and Sophia Veierstahler, 5, of Glendale, make sure their plush-toy animal is comfy for a bike ride. Dad Johannes Lemus brought the kids to the Milwaukee County Zoo on Sept. 15. They joined about 600 intrepid riders who braved the rain to participate in the Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s Ride on the Wild Side Bike Ride, sponsored by Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph and Wisconsin Heart Hospital campuses. Riders could choose a 17- or 27-mile course or a Critter Caravan, a 2.5-mile kids’ route through the Zoo. Afterward, kids could make crafts in the Kids n’ Critters Corral, sponsored by Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren, S.C. Gregory Jon of media sponsors FM 106.1 and The BIG 920 announced the rides. Riders also enjoyed a continental-style breakfast and a picnic lunch.
