NEWS ALERT: Severe weather impacts platelet donations

WHAT:
B
loodCenter of Wisconsin is in critical need of platelet donors. We anticipate a drop in platelet donor appointments over the next few days because of the bitter cold temperatures in the forecast.

WHY:
In order to ensure an adequate supply to help patients in need, we encourage platelet donors to keep their scheduled appointments.  We also encourage new donors to schedule appointments.

Platelets are critical to restore needed blood cells in cancer patients so that they can continue their fight; helping trauma patients recover from life-threatening injuries, and helping patients with fatal blood disorders continue to thrive.

Platelets can be used for just five days, and because of this, the need for donations is consistently great.
