Don't shoot the messenger: The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for southeastern Wisconsin that will remain in effect until noon on Tuesday.
Sure it's January, and we should expect cold temperatures, but it's been about two years since it's been this cold, and we tend to forget these things. Forecasters expect the combination of strong winds and continued bitter temperatures to drive wind chills down to 25 below zero.
In that range, frostbite can occur in 20 to 30 minutes and hypothermia is also likely if precautions aren't taken. In other words, walk the dog before sunset Monday or wait until later Tuesday afternoon.
The advisory encompasses pretty much all of the region, including Waukesha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Racine counties.
The good news is that Wednesday's temperatures are expected to reach 19 degrees, and Thursday's expected to be even warmer, although it brings with it more snow.
