Another Day, A Brand New Dollar

New 'Daily Dollar' opens as a family business to serve families in Muskego

Tucked into the Muskego Centre mall at Janesville Road and Racine Avenue is a new dollar store, which is a family affair that hopes to serve other families in tight economic times.

Dan Lowe, an 11-year veteran of the Chipotle chain as a general manager, decided to pursue a venture with his sister, Dianna Lambert to open the store.

"I liked the idea because it is a family-oriented business," Lowe said. "It's a way to offer quality products to families who want to save money with this economy, and it's a good way to bring our family into it together."

Lambert, who also has been in retail, moved up from Alabama to manage the store, and said the change in scenery was well-received by her family.

"My kids wanted to have snow, my husband wanted to have snow, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity. In Alabama, we've got water, so we had to move to a place where we could still enjoy that."

The store will feature dollar items, and won't go over that price point as some like Dollar General do in order to expand inventory. Merchandise includes household items, gift supplies including helium balloons, food and snacks and a rotating stock of seasonal as well as other items.

"Often I'd see some dollar stores change over only their seasonal items, but we want to keep all of our merchandise fresh," Lambert said.

"We're not a franchise, so we do have more ability to buy outside of the catalog and change up what we offer," Lowe explained.

What caught our eye was a well-stocked aisle of snacks, as well as name brands in nearly every merchandise category. In addition, large gift bags and mylar balloons were a noteworthy find. Lowe said that if they don't have a balloon style in stock, you can bring one in for filling for only 50 cents.

The store opened on Wednesday, July 18 and plans a debut at Jammin' on Janesville on Friday, August 3, just prior to their grand opening on August 4. Hours are Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. -8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
