It seems the humbler the surroundings, the raver the reviews, and Crossroads in Big Bend is no exception.
At first blush, it's a modest sub and pizza place in a small mall on Highway 164, just north of Janesville/Highway L. However, even the guy behind the counter said he can't get enough of the pizza.
Customers agree, enthusiastically.
"No disappointment, ever!" raved one reviewer about their pizza, which unfortunately was not on the agenda during a quick stop for lunch. Instead, the subs got the attention, and those are also known for their generous helpings of meat.
The bread is also sized a little larger than other national chains to accommodate the healthy portions of turkey, cheese, lettuce and tomato. At $4.19 for the six-inch sandwich, it was also a great deal. There are also 24" party subs available for your next gathering.
Pizzas come in sizes 12-18" round, and feature just about anything you'd like to throw on top of them. The favorites are also accompanied by pineapple, green olives, artichoke, jalapeno peppers and grilled chicken.
Ribs, a variety of hot sandwiches, burgers, chicken dinner and even party sized baked lasagna are all part of a surprisingly extensive menu, which explains the spacious kitchen area visible from the front counter. There are tables and chairs, but it would seem the majority of customers grab and go.
Crossroads has other locations in Waterford and New Berlin, and this location has been open for more than 10 years, which is likely due to a loyal following. Hours are Monday - Thursday, 11am-9pm; Friday and Saturday 11am-10pm and Sunday 8:30am-8pm.
