Summer Leaves Pantry Shelves Empty, So Leaves Floral Hopes to Fill Them

Mason jar class is being held on Sunday, June 29 at local florist, which hopes to provide more food for the Muskego Food Pantry and alleviate their drought

Did you know that a simple mason jar can be made into a beautiful vase or centerpiece?

A "Bring Your Own Mason Jar" Floral Design Workshop on Sunday July 29 at 1 p.m. will help you transform this simple item into a fresh floral arrangement you can enjoy, all while serving the need for food locally.

is putting on the workshop, which is $10 per person or $8 when you bring five non-perishable food items for the Muskego Food Pantry. The idea for the class isn't a new one, as Leaves has offered them since they opened in spring, but the food drive is.

"The pantry does so much for people who need help in the summer when kids are off of school and all year long," said owner Jamie Foshey. "I've been wanting to help them over the summer and I thought this might be a good way to spread awareness about helping out during non-holiday times as well."Β

This is a beginner level design workshop and is open to all ages, and is one in a series of classes the shop has offered to teach customers how to do it themselves.

"The other workshops have been getting better and better as more and more people realize that we are here. I've actually been doing more one-on-one design workshops with couples who want to try and do their own wedding flowers," Foshey said.

Summertime has always been a difficult time for food pantries, as students who usually take low-cost lunches at school are home, stretching many families' already-tight budgets and increasing demand. The Muskego Food Pantry's website has a list of needed items to help fill their shelves.
