Young's Auto Emerges From Old Building

Built directly behind a nearly 100-year-old structure, the new Young's Auto Body is open and now visible as former blacksmith shop comes down.

The humble white brick building along Janesville Road had been many things over the past 100 years or so. Most recently, it was Young's Auto Body for the past 35 years, and as the new building was completed, it was just in the way.

Crews got to work yesterday on demolishing the familiar building, which Don Young, owner, said had been a blacksmith shop originally before becoming a car dealership.

"They made square nails and fitted horseshoes for the area farmers," he explained.

Young's broke ground in January for the new auto body facility, which more than doubled their footprint next to Johnny's Petroleum, and enables them to service more vehicles. Young said for now it will be him and son Bruce fixing vehicles after collisions or repainting them, but he thought as business increases, they are hoping to hire more people.

As the debris is cleared away, a paved lot will be laid on the west side of the building, and sod placed in front. These improvements will be completed by the end of fall.
