SavingSadie.com Began in Muskego

She has become a world wide concern, but few Muskego citizens know that the road to saving Sadie began in Muskego. Sadie is the mother dog who was in the hills of Kentucky, having whelped a litter of pups, when she was shot in the head and backside, leaving her paralyzed, but still alive. She was found, and then transferred from shelter to shelter when Joal Derse discovered her in sad condition, in desperate need of euthanasia or intense veterinary care. She was covered in urine and could not stand or walk. She urinated and defecated while lying down. Joal conversed with several veterinary facilities with discouraging prognoses.

When she spoke with me at the Animal Doctor, I could see Joal was going to be a dedicated pet guardian and we should give Sadie a chance. I have seen so many miracles with acupuncture, herbs and nutraceuticals, that I felt we had something special to offer to try to help Sadie. Our holistic veterinary complex has modalities that conventional practices can't offer.

I referred Sadie to the WVRC to be examined by a boarded surgeon and boarded neurologist as well. They concurred that Sadie's responses to testing warranted giving her a chance.

We removed the bullet fragment from her head. Thankfully it had not penetrated bone. The other internal fragments are not removable. The damage is permanent.

Just as regaining neurologic function is a slow, painstaking process in humans, so it is in dogs as well. Sadie is a trooper, but honestly, as my staff can attest, Sadie can be a bit stubborn. She is sweet and incredibly happy, but she doesn't always have the motivation to work hard. Sometimes she looks like she says, "Why should I walk if you're going to pick me up?" She has needed a lot of tough love! The daily hard work and many road trips to her care facilities have been provided by Joal and Sadie's other caretaker, Jeff, who Sadie adores as well! 

I told Joal that I thought water therapy was one of the most important modalities to aid Sadie's recovery. Tops rehab facility has pools and all the special equipment that a dog diasabled so severely requires.

My training in natural nutrition as a Certified Food Therapist and Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist has allowed me to aid Sadie with quality protein foods, whole food supplements, and herbals to stimulate tissue repair, nerve regeneration, and side-effect free pain management. Sadie receives either electroacupuncture or aquapuncture one time per week. My staff performs schedule IV laser treatments on Sadie one time per week. Jesica performs most of Sadie's laser treatments and has coordinated Sadie's intense rehabilitation schedule with Joal and Tops. Katherine is our Certified Massage Therapist who use essential oils on Sadie during her massage and passive range of motion exercises.

We are honored to be a part of Sadie's recovery. Some of you may have seen Sadie outside the Animal Doctor, in her wagon, during Jammin' on Janesville.
