Our Readers Say: Sauced Fish is the Most Delish In Muskego

After spirited competition, there has to be a winner, and newcomer Sauced is voted best of fish frys.

In a week of polling, more than 1,000 votes cast determined that was the best fish fry in Muskego. Sauced is one of Muskego's newest restaurants, but has won fans over for its inventive combinations on pizza, wings, and now fish frys, garnering 313 votes.

The number of votes, coupled with enthusiastic comments from many of its customers made the decision an easy one. However, planning an evening out tonight may still be more difficult as the list of candidates shows it's an embarrassment of riches in Muskego.

For many, it's not just about the fish, but the dishes that sit next to it on a plate. Coleslaw and potato pancakes seemed to get as many rave reviews for voters as the fish itself, which tells you we like our meals to be complete gastrointestinal symphonie. Sauced in particular takes coleslaw and makes it more interesting by adding jalapeno, which one fan said was not as hot as you'd expect but more flavorful.

was not far behind with 281 votes and had been a front runner with Matty's being a favorite for 187 voters. Marx has always had a loyal following for its delicately breaded portions and homemade potato pancakes. Fans also liked Marx fish and potato pancakes, and folks also raved about the coatings on Matty's fish. (Newcastle Ale is used in their batter for a sweet mellow taste.)

Coming in fourth was , gathering 117 votes.

While Lent is only six short weeks, it's a good thing Friday nights happen every week, and you'll have plenty of chances to 'catch' all of the available frys in and around the city. One glance at the list of contenders will tell you there won't be any repeats for quite some time.

It's funny how the article states that over 1000 votes were cast because at 9am, when the poll SHOULD have ended, there was LESS than 1000 votes in. I'm just sayin'...

Dear "anonomous" - the article/poll was revoked a little after 9; technically I am allowing the vote to stand as anyone had equal right to vote. Many other Patch sites received hundreds of votes in the last minutes of voting, so whatever was counted at the minute the poll was pulled counted. Sorry if it didn't end up as you expected.

Atmosphere is ok...food is way better. I had not had their fish until today and will say it deserves to be a contender. Let us know what your experience is like.

I've seen business come and go out of that location several times over the years. I have just tried the Beer battered perch last Wednesday and I was not impressed (sorry). It was crunchy outside but the batter around the filet was SOAKED in oil. This oil slick also covered the potato cakes on the bottom if the to go box. And this addition of jalapeño to the coleslaw was strange at best. I wont be back. Next I'm heading to Marx for a first try. First impressions leave a lasting mark.

First of all, bravo to Patch for broadening the scope of available Fish Fry's in the Muskego area. I haven't heard of "Sauced" before, and quite frankly have driven past the building without giving it a second glance. Now, my interest is piqued because of your poll and I'm looking forward to going there next Friday. Second of all, "anonomous" and anyone else upset by the results of the "fish fry" poll, should think of initiating a recall. Just sayin'.

Last night, we braved the great blizzard and went to Marx Pioneer Inn. I have never seen such white flaky fish. I had the beer batter cod and The Lovely Lori had the same plus a bowl of clam chowder. She had the potato pancakes and I opted for the fries. It came with a slice of rye with two types in the same slice...I don't know what it was called. The food came quickly and hot. Awesome flavor in the coating and the fish was very good, not oily, but very flaky but firm. You get two large pieces. We will return.

Jofar....oh, lordy, no recalls. Truthfully, everyone wins here. I love Pioneer's fry, in part because of their atmosphere. Mark Sobczak did an amazing job with the renovations on this place, and has continued to make improvements over the years. Glad too that Sauced has renovated and redefined the type of establishment along Woods Road that many had truthfully driven past thinking it was still just a tavern. Many choices I have yet to try, so let the research begin!
