Turkey Trot: Lace Up Your Shoes Before You Lace Up the Bird

St. Leonard's will hold the first 5K run in Muskego on Thanksgiving morning, so bring the family to run, walk and earn your big dinner!

It's likely the first 5K run Muskego has ever seen, but the timing couldn't be better, as just before you put on the feedbag on Thursday, you can actually earn it!

St. Leonard's Church will be the start and finish line for the 1st-ever Turkey Trot, with the starting gun to go off at 9 a.m.

There will be a timed 5K Run for the serious runner, but anyone is welcome to come and run in Thanksgiving themed attire. A more casual 3K walk will also be offered, and both events will trail through subdivision streets near St.Leonards, on a flat course. Runners and walkers will start and finish on grass.

Organizer Allen Jorn told Muskego Patch that the response has been surprising.

"We figured this being the first event, we might get 150 or so people, most of them walkers, but everytime we think, 'ok, this is probably it for entrants,' we get 100 more," he said.

The estimated turnout stands at 600 according to Jorn, who said they would welcome any volunteers to help make the race run smoothly.

The $15 entry fee can be turned in with the registration form (online registration has closed as of Nov. 13) to the parish up until race day; same day registration will cost you another $5. Proceeds will go to support St Leonards and its community programs

If you hurry in, it's also likely you'll pick up a T-shirt and a goodie bag.
