Muskego Impact Sweep Weekend Tourney

The Impact took a break from league play the last couple of weekends, but those representing the team in the league’s All-star game over the 4th of July weekend did so quite nicely.  Even though the eastern division team lost 7-4, Brandon Kozinski, Nick Schmidlkofer, and Sean Staral picked up a hit and Andy Liss drove in a run in their limited action.  David Mihlsimmer and Jake Jewel combined to pitched 3 innings of no run baseball.

Then the Impact returned to action this past weekend sweeping three games in the Genoa City Tournament.  In the eight team tourney, they and the Milwaukee Angels were the only two teams to win all three of their games.  They won a close one on Saturday 1-0 and on Sunday with the bats coming alive they won 6-2 and 17-1 to improve their overall record to 9-4.

On Saturday they were victorious over the Green Bay Storm 1-0 as Peter Jewell pitched a gem.  He improved his record to 3-0 with the shutout victory allowing only 3 hits, striking out 7 and walking only one, and had some nice defensive work displayed behind him.  On offense, the Impact did pick up 8 hits, but could not muster any runs until the bottom of the seventh inning when they loaded the bases with no outs and Jake Jewell hit a long drive to left center to win the game.  Nick Paffhausen lead of the seventh with a double, Steve Roeland bunted for a base hit and Chad Henneberry was walked intentional before Jewell came through with his heroics.  Nick Blanchet, Paffhausen and Roeland picked up 2 hits each for the Impact.

On Sunday they beat the West Allis Nationals 6-2 breaking open a 1-1 game with three runs in the 5th inning, and in the second game pounded the Genoa City Red Dogs 17-1 scoring 10 runs in the first inning.   Dave Mihlsimmer picked up the victory against the Nationals, who are one of the better teams out of southeastern Wisconsin.  He improved his record to 4-1 as he allowed only 2 runs on 8 hits, striking out 3 with no walks and one hit batter.  In the 5th, Nick Schmidlkofer drove in the go ahead run with an infield single when the pitcher was late covering first and from there the impact scored two more on a walk to Andy Liss and a single by Jake Jewell.  Nick Blanchet, Kevin Schoenbach and Sean Staral collected 2 hits each with Blanchet driving in 2 runs.

The Impact used 8 hits, a couple of walks and 3 errors to score those 10 first inning runs against the Red Dogs in the second game and went on to pound out 13 hits,  collect 5 walks and 2 hit batters, with the Red Dogs committing 5 errors in the five inning run rule victory.  Cole Borek was the winning pitcher and he was on his game bringing his record to 2-2 as he allowed one unearned run on only 2 hits and one walk.  Leading the offensive barrage was Nick Blanchet with 3 hits and Brandon Kozinski, Jake Jewell and Kevin Schoenbach with 2 hits each.  Nick Schmidlkofer drove in 3 runs with a double.

The Impact return to league play this weekend when they take on the New Berlin Lakers at Horn Field in a Sunday doubleheader starting at noon.   These are sure to be some crucial games in the drive to win the Land O’ Lakes eastern division.
