Classic 8

(to get in, a team needs four or more league wins)

In for sure

Find out what's happening in Muskegowith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Waukesha West (3-2, 3-1): OK, the Wolverines haven’t locked up a playoff berth yet, and they have back-to-back tough games with Catholic Memorial on Sept. 28 and Arrowhead on Oct. 4, but they finish the season with winless Waukesha North on Oct. 12. Needing just one win to get in, they’ll get it there for sure if they haven’t by then.

Still a chance

Catholic Memorial (3-2, 2-2): It won’t be easy for the Crusaders, who need to beat two of these three — Waukesha West, Waukesha North and Kettle Moraine — to get in. A string of five straight playoff appearances is on the line.

Muskego (3-3, 2-3): The Warriors, who made playoff appearances in their final two years in the Southeast Conference, could still qualify in their first year in the Classic 8. After their win against Waukesha North on Friday, they need to sweep Kettle Moraine and Waukesha South over the final weeks of the season.

Not this year

Waukesha North (1-4, 0-4): The Northstars have been eliminated from playoff contention and have not been to the playoffs since 2006.

Waukesha South (1-4, 1-3): South’s playoff drought, which extends back to 1999, will continue as Arrowhead presumably will hand South its fourth league loss Friday night.

North Shore

(to get in, a team needs four or more league wins)

In for sure

Whitefish Bay (4-1, 3-1): With Rashadeem Gray and his 856 rushing yards leading the way, the Blue Dukes need a win over the final three games to get in for the sixth straight year. Contests with Grafton and Nicolet sandwich a home game with Homestead on Oct. 5. Count the Dukes in.

Still a chance

Port Washington (2-3, 2-2): The Pirates haven’t been to the postseason since 2008 and would need two wins over their final three games. Port has to beat either Germantown Friday night or Cedarburg on Oct. 5 and then knock off hapless Grafton in the league finale to get in.

Not this year

Nicolet (2-3, 1-3): The Knights have made the playoffs just once in their history, back in 1989. They’d have to sweep their final three games against teams with winning records.

Southeast

(to get in, a team needs four or more league wins)

In for sure

Oak Creek: (5-0, 4-0): The Knights are back! They’ll make their first playoff appearance since 2009 and have their sights set on a Southeast Conference title.

Still a chance

Racine Horlick (3-2, 3-1): Rickey Neal Jr., with 807 rushing yards, is closing in on 1,000 and has Horlick poised for its first postseason berth since 2008. And though the Rebels need just one win to get in, they have tough contests with Kenosha Bradford, Oak Creek and Kenosha Tremper.

Not this year

Racine Case (1-4, 0-4): The Eagles, who have not been to the playoffs since 1997, have been eliminated.

Racine Park (1-4, 1-3): The Panthers need to win out to get in for the first time since 2009. Matchups with Franklin on Friday and Kenosha Bradford on Oct. 12 will likely prevent that from happening.

Woodland Conference East

(a team needs four wins to qualify, or five or more wins to get in for sure)

Looking good

Whitnall (4-1, 3-0): The Falcons already have enough wins to get in the playoffs out of the Woodland Conference, where all eight games count toward the postseason requirements. Whitnall can finish no worse than 4-4 but has very winnable games against Brown Deer, Cudahy and New Berlin West left and is a lock to earn a berth for the first time since 2010. More importantly, the Falcons could land their first league title in 12 years.

Still a chance

Greenfield (2-3, 2-1): Despite starting the season 0-3, the Hustlin’ Hawks could pull off a second straight playoff berth with two wins in three games. It won’t be easy — South Milwaukee, Brown Deer and Wauwatosa West remain — but it’s doable.

Woodland Conference West

(a team needs four wins to qualify, or five ore more wins to get in for sure)

Looking good

Greendale (4-1, 2-1): The Panthers have the minimum required number of wins and are well on their way to their eighth-straight playoff appearance.

Wauwatosa West (4-1, 2-1): The Trojans haven’t been to the postseason since 2006, but that’s oh, so close to changing. West has qualified with four wins in its first five games, and a victory over New Berlin Eisenhower, Greendale or Greenfield locks the Trojans in.

Greater Metro

(to get in, a team needs four or more league wins)

In for sure

Brookfield East (5-0, 4-0): The undefeated Spartans, led by quarterback Zach Damico (610 passing yards, 601 rushing yards) have been spectacular all season and are eyeing a conference title.

Looking good

Sussex Hamilton (4-1, 3-1): Needing just one win, the Chargers should have no problems getting in as they play Wauwatosa East on Friday and winless West Allis Central on Oct. 5 before taking on undefeated Brookfield East on Oct. 12 in a game that could determine the GMC champion. … Drew Patterson is closing in on a 1,000-yard season with 950 rushing yards.

Menomonee Falls (3-2, 3-1): Coming off an upset win over Sussex Hamilton on Sept. 21, the Indians need just one more win against either Marquette, West Allis Hale or Brookfield Central over the final three weeks. Only Brookfield Central is better than .500 overall this season. … Getting in would end a two-year drought for the Indians.

Brookfield Central (3-2, 2-2): The Lancers are thankfully through the tough part of their schedule and have winless West Allis Central on Friday and struggling Wauwatosa East on Oct. 5. Win both of those and the Lancers are in.

Not this year

Wauwatosa East (2-3, 1-3): To get in the Red Raiders need to sweep their final three games, including contests with Sussex Hamilton on Sept. 28 and at Brookfield Central on Oct. 5.

Midwest Classic

(to team needs three league wins to qualify or for or more to get in for sure)

Looking good

Shorewood/Messmer (4-1, 3-1): The co-op has enough wins to get in for the second straight year and can lock up a berth with a victory over either Brookfield Academy on Oct. 5 or Living Word Lutheran on Oct. 12.

Still a chance

Brookfield Academy (3-2, 2-1): BA just needs one more win to qualify and plays winless HOPE Christian on Friday.

Not this year

University School (1-4, 0-3): A playoff team a year ago, USM would need to win out, which would have to include an upset win over unbeaten Lake Country Lutheran on Oct. 5.

More Patch-area teams: Racine St. Catherine’s (4-1, 3-0) has enough wins to get in out of the Metro Classic, where teams need to go 3-3 in league play. ... Also in the Metro Classic, Martin Luther (3-1, 2-1) is on the verge, but Racine Lutheran (1-4, 1-3) will likely be on the outside looking in.
