Man Charged with Drug Possession After Reckless Ride Through West Allis

A 27-year-old Muskego man has been charged with multiple counts of drug possession after police reported he had marijuana and pills in his van while driving recklessly in West Allis.

Kyle T. Scheffler was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Monday with one count of third offense operating while intoxicated, one count of operating a motor vehicle with a restricted substance in his blood, one count of possession of THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana and one count of possession of prescription drugs without a valid prescription.

If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison and $5,500 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Dec. 22, 2011, a West Allis police officer on patrol spotted Scheffler driving recklessly and speeding in the 6600 block of West Beloit Road and pulled him over. The officer immediately noticed Scheffler had glassy eyes and restricted pupils during the stop.

The report stated Scheffler told the officer he smoked marijuana before driving, so he was given field sobriety tests, which he then failed. The officer then searched Scheffler's van and found marijuana in a baggie along with 10 Alprezolam pills and 15 Diazepam pills.

Scheffler was taken in for a blood test, which later revealed the presence of THC in his blood stream at the time of the incident, according to the report.

Scheffler was previously convicted of OWI in 2008 and 2009. He will make his initial apperance in court Nov. 21.
