Man Suspected of Retail Theft Faces Heroin Charge

Matthew D. Dufour, 24, of New Berlin, is accused of having a syringe with heroin on it when shoplifting from the Muskego Walmart, according to a criminal complaint.

A 24-year-old New Berlin man suspected of shoplifting from the Muskego Walmart now faces more trouble after a syringe that belonged to him tested positive for heroin, according to a criminal complaint.

Matthew D. Dufour was charged Friday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with possession of a narcotic drug. If convicted, he faces up to 1-1/2 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

A Muskego police officer found the syringe in a Green Dodge Neon that was a getaway vehicle in a retail theft that was reported on Jan. 8. The officer pulled the vehicle over at College Avenue and Moorland Road for expired registration, according to the complaint.

Dufour, who was a passenger in the vehicle, had the stolen merchandise concealed by a jacket, according to the complaint. The officer searched the car and found a syringe that Dufour admitted was his.

The syringe tested positive for heroin, the complaint states.
