Muskego Police Nab 6th-Time Drunken Driver, Complaint Says

Waterford man speeding through Muskego charged with a felony operating while intoxicated offense.

A 54-year-old Waterford man who was pulled over for speeding nearly 30 mph above the posted limit in Muskego is finding himself in even more trouble after police believe he was intoxicated.

Ryan T. Reed was charged Tuesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with his sixth drunken driving offense, operating while revoked and failure to install an ignition interlock device. If convicted, he faces up to 4-1/2 years initial confinement in prison and $13,100 in fines.

Reed remains jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.

A Muskego police officer was monitoring traffic at 9:57 a.m. July 1 near Parker Road and Highway Y when he saw a vehicle traveling 73 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone.

“Please, please, you don’t know how bad this is,” said Reed, who was driving the car as the officer approached.

The officer didn’t immediately smell intoxicants coming from Reed, whose license was revoked for prior drunken driving incidents, but asked him if he had been drinking. Reed admitted to consuming a 12-pack of beer between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. June 30, the complaint states.

Reed swayed at one point during his field sobriety tests and quit before the test could be completed. He refused to take the breath test, telling the officer he would be over the legal limit, the complaint states, and the officer then smelled intoxicants coming from Reed.

Reed was taken into custody and his blood was sent to the state crime lab.

The legal limit for people with three or more drunken driving convictions in Wisconsin is .02 percent blood alcohol concentration. Reed previously was convicted of drunken driving in April 1999, June 2005, July 2005, February 2009 and May 2012.
