Road Rage Call Leads to Arrest of Driver with Gun, Ammo

Wind Lake man, 35, says he didn't instigate incident but was arrested after a gun and 10 rounds of ammunition were found on him.

Road rage was the least of a Wind Lake man's troubles after police caught up with him on New Year's eve.

According to police reports, a call came in from a driver around 8 p.m., regarding a road rage incident around Racine Avenue and Kelsey Drive.

As police responded the man was spotted heading northbound on Racine Avenue and he failed to yield to any of the emergency vehicles, reports stated. However squads turned and pursued him and the man pulled over after about 20 to 30 seconds.

A "strong odor of intoxicants was noted from inside the vehicle," the report stated, and the man was observed to have "glassy bloodshot eyes and admitted to having a couple of drinks."

However, the man told police he wasn't the instigator of the incident, and had intended to call 911 but couldn't get the phone out of his pocket.

A search of the man's pockets also revealed a pocket knife, but also 10 rounds ammunition. Although the man repeated denied having a firearm, but a loaded handgun was found in his boot. As he had no concealed carry permit, he was arrested immediately.

Police reported he had a blood alcohol level of 0.17, or about twice the legal limit. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated, carrying a concealed weapon, endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct in Waukesha County Circuit Court.
