Earlier this week, it was reported by Fred Korth, commander of Muskego's American Legion Post 356 that a in the Old Settlement Center, which the post donated to the city.
Muskego Police have since taken on the case and forwarded the information to Waukesha County CrimeStoppers, which is an organization that awards citizens with information that leads to an arrest.
According to police, the emblem was last seen on the bench before the Muskego Community Festival, the weekend of August 24-26. The theft was discovered during the legion’s flag lowering ceremony on September 11th, in remembrance of the lives lost.
"As I prepared to lower the flag in honor of 9-11 disaster, I noticed that the American Legion emblem that was attached to the bench was missing. This flag pole and bench was donated to the honor all men and women that have served and are still serving the United States of America," explained Korth. "It is not the cost of the emblem that matters, it's the lack of respect that was shown by the person or persons who removed the emblem."
Muskego Police were a bit more blunt.
"If you have any information regarding the identity of the sleazebag who desecrated this monument, do the right thing and contact the Muskego Police Department," said Lt. Dave Constantineau.
