Muskego Police Canine Gets Final Go-Ahead

The Muskego Common Council approved adding a police canine to the city's police force.

The Muskego Police Department will get its own canine following unanimous approval of the Common Council Tuesday night.

A canine has received widespread community support, with many offering donations to help initiate the program. That includes an $18,000 letter of commitment from Stan Kass, who supports many other canine programs in the area.

About $48,000, which includes the purchase of a new squad car for about $30,000, is needed to initiate the program, Police Chief Craig Moser said.

Police say not having a dog has hampered the department's ability to track fleeing suspects and search suspicious vehicles, and also poses a greater threat to officer safety.

The department has made more than 100 requests to other departments to use their police dogs since 2009.
