Second Cousins in Muskego? Not So Fast...

A banner declaring "Opening Soon - Cousins Subs" might be a bit premature as strip mall owner is holding off on filing any requests with the city until all tenants have signed on.

A few readers started the ball rolling with the question, "What's up with the Cousins sign on Moorland Road?"

The banner, which is placed in front of the GE Medical facility just across from Walmart, announces that the sub shop would be opening soon at that location.

Cousins Subs confirmed that a second restaurant is planned at the 1.97-acre site, with owner Jason Ballentine to operate it. Ballentine owns other Cousins in New Berlin and in Waukesha County. Muskego's other Cousins restaurant is owned by Ken and Vicki Frenz, and is located further west on Racine Avenue in the (Piggly Wiggly) Muskego Centre Mall.

However, the mall in which the restaurant would operate has yet to get every tenant's signature to make it 100 percent occupied, something mall owner Siegel-Gallagher is requiring before they move ahead with the proper requests from the city to begin construction.

Adam Trzebiatowski, with the city planner's office, has confirmed that the city has not received any building, site and operation plans to take to the Plan Commission. However, the plans can be viewed on the developer's website.

"We have been told there is only one other tenant that they are waiting on to sign an agreement, so we're hopeful the process can begin shortly," said Dawn Bores, a spokeswoman for Cousins.

Muskego Patch has reached out to Siegel-Gallagher for confirmation on the status of the mall or its tenants but have not received a reply. We will update the story as more information becomes available.
