The Food Pantry Goes Back to School

While many of their backpacks are filled, demand still exceeds supply.

As long as retailers are making it ridiculously cheap to stock up on some of the basics for school (there's always 10 cent notebooks somewhere), the Muskego Food Pantry is hoping you'll remember to grab a few extra items for kids in need.

Julie Frahman, director of the pantry, said they will distribute the filled backpacks at their annual Back to School Bonanza on August 19, but before then they have to make sure everyone who needs one, gets one.

"We've been fortunate to get backpacks from the Backpack Coalition, but there are still 10-12 families who we need to take care of," Frahman said.

The list of supplies needed to fill a backpack aren't too different from what you'd put in your own kids, and include:

  • Pens, pencils, colored pencils & markers
  • spiral notebooks
  • folders, especially those with characters on them
  • loose leaf paper
  • glue
  • erasers
  • backpacks themselves

Frahman said too much is also never enough as the need continues throughout the school year.
