Remembering Kayla: Friends, Family Asked to Wear Purple in Teen's Honor

As funeral arrangements are set for Kayla Corona, memorials placed at the accident scene recall a friend, teammate and daughter, with her favorite color purple asked to be worn in her memory.

The frozen landscape has taken its toll on the bouquets of flowers laid at the site of a fatal crash that took the life of Kayla Corona, a 2012 Muskego High School graduate. However, the warmth of the sentiments is very real and moving.

"You were one of the happiest people I have ever met ... playing rugby with you and meeting you were some of the happiest experiences of my life," wrote a former teammate on a rugby football.

Corona died after being transported to Froedtert Hospital in the early morning hours Saturday, the result of her vehicle leaving Henneberry Drive and crashing into a utility pole.

"The Muskego High School family is saddened by the news of Kayla’s death and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends," Principal Ryan Oertel stated in a release.

Oertel also explained that the school has shared information with its teaching staff, and has engaged a counselor team over the weekend to to be available to students should any of them need support.

In addition, Tom Corona, Kayla's father, asked to pass along the thanks of his family for the outpouring of love, prayers and support in the wake of the news, with a special thanks to the first responders at the scene on Saturday morning.

The obituary posted by Church and Chapel Funeral Homes asked anyone to remember Kayla by wearing purple, which was her favorite color.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3 until 6:30 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 380 Bluemound Road, Waukesha. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Waukesha H.A.W.S (Humane Animal Welfare Society) are greatly appreciated.
