Monday's WIAA Baseball Sectional Features Muskego, Oak Creek, More

Whitnall High School is the site of a day filled with baseball as the winners of the last three state championships - Oak Creek and Franklin - as well as New Berlin West and Muskego, try to reach Friday's state tournament.

Defending state champion Oak Creek is just two wins from returning to the WIAA state tournament and will look for both of them Monday in Greenfield.

Whitnall High School is the host of today’s sectional featuring four of the top teams in the state. The four-time state champion and top-seeded Knights (22-7) play the fourth-seeded Muskego Warriors (22-6) at 11 a.m. in the first semifinal. The Warriors ended Whitnall’s season with a 1-0 win Friday.

In the 2 p.m. semifinal, third-seeded Franklin (22-7), winner of the 2010 and 2011 state titles, plays second-seeded New Berlin West (21-5).

The sectional final is scheduled for 5 p.m. The winner plays Friday in a state semifinal at approximately 3:15 p.m. at Kapko Park in Mequon.

Whitnall’s sectional is the only one in the state that stayed true to its seeds with the top four teams advancing to play Monday.
