PHOTO GALLERY: A Rainy National Night Still Brings Neighbors Out

Despite clouds and pesky rain showers, Muskego's National Night Out goes on with the show, punctuated by a landing by Flight for Life in the middle of the event

Despite early showers featured in the opening hour of Muskego's National Night Out, the clouds actually parted for a bit to allow the sun to shine briefly and held the raindrops at bay for the remainder of the event.

In its sixth year, National Night Out seeks to unite the community along with law enforcement agencies to learn more about safety, crime prevention, and most importantly each other.

"We're thrilled to have people come out despite the rain and come together," said Phil Ziegler, CEO of InPro Corp., a Muskego business and major sponsor of the event. "We couldn't have put this together without all of our participating organizations, businesses and volunteers working to make it a success."

The Muskego task force on public safety was formed during Mayor John Johnson's tenure and has been the organizing body to bring National Night Out to life. The Muskego Police Department, Tess Corners Fire Department, businesses and nonprofit organizations all take part in offering information and free safety items to attendees.

Admittedly, the weather was a factor, but as it was the reason for keeping the Flight for Life helicopter away, it also set up for a grand entrance. Generally, the emergency air lift is already parked and ready for inspection by residents when National Night Out opens, but a low cloud deck that improved as the evening progressed meant that the chopper could come in for a landing while spectators watched.

Bike raffles, free bike helmets, live music and good food were still a part of the evening, which was capped off by a glow stick walk to represent community solidarity.
