A Soldier's Heart

Muskego man who served between two wars was quiet about his service but left no doubt where his heart was.

Many veterans are reluctant to share their stories, in part because of the painful memories combat can conjure, and in other instances because combat played no part of their military experience.  In all cases, many feel stories are for heroes to tell, and no veteran ever seems comfortable with that title. Bill Klement grew up with a father who had served in World War I and brothers who served in the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands during World War II, and shortly after his 18th birthday in 1946, was eager to be drafted into the army.  Soldiers at that time were looked to for 'relief' for soldiers who had seen years of battle, and were often called up to help in the stabilization and reconstruction years in Europe after the war.
