Muskego Student Named Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year

Andrija Novakovich has been named the state's Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year and is a finalist for the national honor.

Not only did Muskego's Andrija Novakovich score 41 goals this season, but he has also been named Gatorade Wisconsin Boys Soccer Player of the Year. The Gatorade award, in collaboration with USA TODAY, recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, according to a release. Novakovich is a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in May. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound junior forward scored 41 goals and passed for 13 assists this past season, leading the Warriors (18-5-3) to the sectional final. Muskego Soccer Boasts Three All-State Members

A solid year for Muskego Warriors soccer foretells more good years to come.

From Coach Eric Hess and the Muskego High School Boys Soccer Team, a wrap up of the season provides a positive look into the future for the sport in the next few years, with all teams posting dominating records, and many receiving recognition on the state and regional level. Muskego had three players make the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association All-State Team:  "It was also announced at the banquet that Andrija made the All Region team, which is quite an honor," Hess said. Novakovich has already joined the 2014 recruiting class at Marquette University. Hess also noted very few players make the All State team that are underclassmen.
