Spaghetti dinner at the local bar and restaurant raised awareness and $2,600 for three Muskego residents without a home after Feb. 26 fire
It was a tale of two Saturdays. Feb. 26 saw three Muskego residents lose their home in a matter of hours after a fire totaled their duplex on Martin Drive around 9 a.m. However, Saturday, March 3 wrote a new chapter, and raised hopes that while the fire took away all of the tenants' possessions, it also rallied the community to help them rebuild. Dawn Schwulst, one of the tenants, was at Danny Haskell's this past Saturday, a bit overwhelmed by events of the past week. "I had stepped out to pick up some things at Walmart, and returned to the fire," Schwulst said. Local restaurant responds to need for 'just about everything' for victims of Saturday's duplex fire.

"They have pretty much the clothes on their back, and a few pieces of furniture that were in storage, but that's it." Sources have confirmed that none of the tenants had renter's insurance. To help Schwulst and her boyfriend, Danny Klement, as well …

One injury and no fatalities in fire on Martin Drive Saturday morning, but loss of home and companions still measured.
According to police on scene, an astute neighbor driving by the duplex on Martin Drive around 9 a.m. caught the sight of a flame at the corner of the house on Saturday, Feb. 25. He first stopped to make sure no one was home, then made a call to police. Over the next four hours, six fire departments including Tess Corners, would battle the elusive fire. Mukwonago, Hales Corners, Big Bend, Vernon and Waukesha departments were called upon for mutual aid. However, despite thick smoke and cold conditions only one injury was reported to fire personnel, with the fire fighter transported to the hospital. No update to his condition has been received yet, but it was reported that his injuries were not life threatening. Equally as lucky, none of the …
