Bethel Lutheran Gets OK from CDA for New Sign, Other Improvements

Janesville Road reconstruction will cut into the church's 420 feet of frontage, and will receive a little help from the Muskego CDA grant program for improvements, but not without debate on what defines commercial property

There was no disagreement that making improvements to Bethel Lutheran Church, which faces Janesville Road on 420 feet of frontage, would help improve the look of the area. However, members of the Community Development Authority struggled briefly Tuesday night with agreeing to give the church $3000 in grant money for the improvements that would beautify the space.  Chairman of the CDA Rob Glazier told the group that they may be setting a precedent in giving the money to a church, as it doesn't exactly fit the description of a commercial property. Previously the group has made exemptions for residential properties from the grant program, but institutional properties still create a "gray area," which many felt would have to be dealt with on a…

At the Common Council this week, the application for the grant was defeated by a vote of 6-1, with only Neome Schaumberg voting yes. Her reasoning was simply that the church does good work and is a good neighbor. Not a very persuasive argument for the rest of the council.   more ›

Muskego Chamber Pleased at Response to Jammin on Janesville

Planning for its second year, Jammin organizers are seeing an enthusiastic response to the summer event.

It would have been a fair assessment to say that last year, the concept of a festival held along Janesville Road was a tough sell for some businesses. The road, which is poised for a major reconstruction, is not necessarily the prettiest thing Muskego has going for it. However, that was the point of staging events to draw crowds - and customers - to meet the businesses that would be impacted by road construction, and the success of 2011's events has led to a heightened interest in this year's planning.
