Businesses in Trouble for Underage Liquor Sales

The Finance Committee will talk with offenders of liquor licenses during Tuesday night's meetings at City Hall.

A full slate of meetings at City Hall include the following, beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday: Finance Committee (Alderman's Room): Several businesses were cited in December for violating their liquor licenses by selling alcohol to underage customers. Chief Craig Moser has requested that representatives from each of the businesses, which include Aldi's, Denoon Saloon and Jetz Convenience Center, appear before the committee to discuss the incidents. In each of the cases, police reports state that underage "decoys" were asked for their identification. However the birthdates listed on their IDs would have revealed that they were still not old enough to purchase alcohol if they were read correctly. Is Big Muskego in Big Trouble?

The lake is in its "worst condition in years" after two dry summers. Residents want answers, but conservationists say they are doing what they can and expect winter to rectify problems with weeds and water levels.

Big Muskego Lake Deputy Commissioner Greg Burmeister was blunt. "I haven't seen the weed situation this bad in years on the lake," he said. Unprecedented dry conditions this summer and a mild winter and spring have led to a "perfect storm" on the lake to make it difficult for boaters to get on the lake and navigate once they do make it. "We were in open water by March 3rd this year and boats were on the lake, so the weeds have had a chance to grow. The milfoil along with algae has made some areas impassable, and I'd say one-quarter to one-third of the lake is covered by it," Burmeister reported. I fear this a trend with our warming climate. Fish kills in summer and winter. The lake is more marsh than lake. Might be time to lower the bass size limit. Good for ducks at least. I can still get my skiff out there   more ›
