The newly opened Culver's in Elm Grove — around the corner from Azana Salon & Spa — was hopping Thursday after announcing it will donate 100% of its Thursday sales to the families of women killed in the spa shooting.
At lunch time Thursday, the drive-thru lines for the newly opened Culver's in Elm Grove were so long, cars backed out onto Bluemound Road. And inside the restaurant at dinner time, the place was packed. Why? The community rallied behind Culver's and its generous offer to donate 100% of all sales all day Thursday (10 a.m. to 10 p.m.) to the Azana Salon & Spa benefit fund for the children of the women killed in the spa shooting Oct. 21. Customers tried to eat quickly to give up their tables for more customers. Families waited patiently a few extra minutes as a bolstered staff worked quickly to deliver all orders. And while they waited, they could also buy raffle tickets organized by Red Oak Counseling of Elm Grove, who received a table full …

Think about donating unneeded clothing to a unique cause.
Going through your winter clothes? Now's the time to think about donating outgrown or no-longer needed warm clothes as part of Operation Sweaters for Veterans, a unique way to honor our nation's heros. Max A. Sass and Sons Funeral Homes, in conjunction with Veterans & Family Memorial Care, will collect donate gently-used sweaters and gloves now through Veterans Day, Nov. 12, with the donated items going to vets in VA hospitals or in veterans' homes. This includes the Muskego location on Westwood Drive, just off of Janesville Road. Organizers of the program hope the small gesture of donating warm clothing will help everyone remember the sacrifices veterans have made for our country. Veteran's Day is officially on Nov. 11, with Muskego …

Donate your old artificial Christmas tree to Treetime Christmas Creations, and receive 15 percent off a new one of your choice.
A Christmas tree is the center of most families holiday decor. But for households who can't afford a holiday tree, many simply go without. An Illinois business has partnered with the Salvation Army to help make a tree a reality for needy families, and this year the program has expanded to the Milwaukee area. Treetime Christmas Creations and the Salvation Army are teaming up for the second year in a row to gather donated artificial Christmas trees that will go to the less fortunate. Anyone who donates their old tree will receive a 15 percent discount on a new one from Treetime from now until Oct. 31. Milwaukee-area residents should just call 1-800-SATRUCK and indicate they have a tree to donate. The Salvation Army truck will pick up their …

Stars and Stripes Honor Flight has teamed up with Miller Park to host an event in August that will bring together thousands of veterans and feature the world premiere of the organization's documentary. Field of Honor: A Salute to the Greatest Generation will start at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 11, with the parking lots opening at 3:30 p.m. for tailgating. Tickets cost $11 each, and a complete itinerary is available on the organization's website. Filmmaker Dan Hayes was inspired to create the documentary in 2009, after meeting up with the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight group that was visiting the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. Hayes collected stories from the veterans and shortly thereafter he cut together a five-minute film about the men. However, …

Starting March 12, the Callen Design Group is holding a series of cooking demonstrations in their company showroom at S63 W13131 Janesville Rd. According to Marketing Coordinator Christi Pryor, for the past three to four years, Callen has hosted these spring cooking demonstrations in their fully-functional model kitchens. The series began as a brainstorm and has turned into a tradition that has benefited both Callen Construction as well as the chefs who participate in the demonstrations. "The cooking show series has been a popular event for the company," Pryor said. "Partnering with area chefs has been a powerful and fun way to cross-promote while helping residents of Muskego learn a little more about cooking." Callen's cooking series …
