Third annual event brings police together with kids who need to check off their Christmas lists, but the recent tragedy made the shopping trip even more meaningful.
Police were seen all over Walmart on Saturday, but not to worry - they were there to help area kids in need buy Christmas presents for their families. The 3rd annual 'Shop with a Cop' in Muskego saw 23 families request to have Muskego police officers help the kids pick out presents for everyone in their family. Officer Ann Shaw said this is the largest pool of applicants the department has had, but added that it was also the first year that they received donations from the community. "Normally it's just been Walmart supplying the gift cards, but we had $350 in donations from people in the community, which really helped out," she said. Walmart provided $100 gift cards for each child, and Muskego policemen said the event was a great balance …

A banner declaring "Opening Soon - Cousins Subs" might be a bit premature as strip mall owner is holding off on filing any requests with the city until all tenants have signed on.
A few readers started the ball rolling with the question, "What's up with the Cousins sign on Moorland Road?" The banner, which is placed in front of the GE Medical facility just across from Walmart, announces that the sub shop would be opening soon at that location. Cousins Subs confirmed that a second restaurant is planned at the 1.97-acre site, with owner Jason Ballentine to operate it. Ballentine owns other Cousins in New Berlin and in Waukesha County. Muskego's other Cousins restaurant is owned by Ken and Vicki Frenz, and is located further west on Racine Avenue in the (Piggly Wiggly) Muskego Centre Mall. However, the mall in which the restaurant would operate has yet to get every tenant's signature to make it 100 percent occupied, …

New dollar menu seeks to spread the wealth of attendance so people 'graze' along the whole route of the 4-mile festival.
No doubt the Jammin' on Janesville mailer and map came to your house just befor the weekend, and one of the new features this year is a dollar menu. Organizers hope to encourage patrons, who came out in the thousands last year, to taste a little from each restaurant along the way, instead of 'hunkering down' and having a larger meal in one spot. This year, of the 90 or more businesses participating in the event, about 20 percent will be featuring some food or beverage menu, so the dollar menu is hoped to allow people to try more in more places. Coordinator Cassandra Wurster said there are about 25 menu items on the list. Some menu items are not food, like the 'mini spa' offered by L Spa, but most will be perfect for walking and noshing at …

What started as a photo shoot opportunity for pets has grown into a fair, and organizer says 'the more, the merrier'
Signs have gone up for a Pet Photo Shoot at the Walgreens on Racine Avenue and Janesville Road, but it's just part of the events that will be offered on Saturday, September 17 from 11am -3pm. Chris March, organizer and Head Photo Specialist at Walgreen's wanted to hold a charitable fundraiser, and thought the offer for a free photo with a donation to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha (HAWS) would be a great cause. HAWS will now also be on site with a mobile adoption trailer, and other Muskego businesses have also committed to helping out. While the photo shoot has become a pet fair, March said she is inviting any other businesses that want to be a part of the event to contact her. "Really, the more the merrier," she said. "We …

I count 5 (2 Subways, Jimmy Johns, Quiznos, Cousins), but I agree that more choices are welcome, especially on the East vs West point. If you want a burger, you either have DQ or else go all the way West to Culvers or McDonalds or head to another community.   more ›
