DJ's Rezoning Request Draws Suspicion, Ire of Some Residents

The downtown pub will be razed during 2013 construction, so owner is hoping to rebuild, but will need to change zoning; however, lake residents are nervous over what impact it will have on quality of life.

Dan Hewitt's property includes DJ's Pub and Grill along with residential buildings, and it's been a business of one type or another for about 90 years. However, it has  never been zoned as a business parcel, and that hasn't made a difference until the Janesville Road construction project. The pub sits 10 feet off of Janesville Road and will be razed as the construction crews widen the road in 2013 as part of the multi-year project hoped to revitalize the downtown business district. Hewitt wants to rebuild the business, which would include an upstairs living space like the building has now, but will need to be rezoned as a business in order to do so. And some residents aren't too happy about that. While many residents at this week's Common …

DJ's is not some nuisance bar. Anyone who has been there on a Friday night for a fish fry knows it's a family gathering place, it just happens to be also a bar. There will be businesses on the lake sooner than you think, because money talks. That side of Little Muskego can use some clean up anyway. Most of the houses on that side look like Jed Clampett and friends live in them, so they need to …   more ›

Muskego Lake Park, Round II

Common Council meeting draws crowd as lake park proposal again takes center stage

The Muskego Common council convened again in a different venue with concerns over a purchase of two parcels of land along Janesville Road drawing a larger than average crowd. Under new business on the council's agenda, the discussion item labeled "Reconsideration of Resolution 003-2012" was what drew a greater number of residents to the meeting, as what may have been perceived as a 'done deal' on Jan. 24 remained as a discussion item. Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti explained that she had placed the discussion item to reconsider onto the night's agenda, and along with it the previous resolution, which passed on a contentious 4-3 vote, with Aldermen Dan Soltysiak, Kert Harenda and Neil Borgman opposing. In the meantime, 3,400 signatures were …

Justin - the referendum that passed earlier was on the purchase of the land where Bay Breeze now stands. However, the council voted not to hear the voters and they did not purchase the land and no park was built there.   more ›

Update: Muskego Anti-Lake Park Group To Present Petitions

Group has protested in front of Mayor's house and distributed flyers, and says they're working on gathering petitions to block vote

The protest on Sunday, and an apparent literature drop since then by a group opposed to a purchase by the city of land along Janesville Road, has brought new attention to a group formed in opposition to the offer to purchase resolution before the common council Tuesday night. The flyers tucked under windshield wipers after Sunday mass at St. Leonards and tucked into mailboxes around Muskego ask residents to question the $3.5 million expenditure of the city to purchase land and homes offered by Michael Dilworth, which also includes a home owned by the Cherek family. The flyer is designated as "paid for by Muskego for Ethical Government, Debra Bolton, Treasurer." Additionally, there has been speculation that the group was trying to collect …

Recall? Vote them out? I don't care but one way or the other this Council, and especially this Mayor, must be held accountable. Misappropriation of TIF funds, the creation of slush funds by borrowing before an aquisition was even approved, public officials who refuse to speak to their constituents, and an open contempt for at least a portion of their community are all reasons to remove these …   more ›
