Muskego-Norway to Lose Superintendent

Dr. Joe Schroeder has been named as associate executive director of the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, and will leave the district at the end of June.

The Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA) has named Dr. Joe Schroeder, Muskego-Norway School Superintendent, as its new associate executive director. In a statement from the AWSA, its executive director, Jim Lynch said, "We couldn't have found a better person to lead our professional development programming. Dr. Schroeder's successful experience as a teacher, principal, director of instruction and superintendent will serve AWSA well as the association provides professional education and training to support school leaders in this time of great change." Schroeder became superintendent with MNSD in 2007, and had served previously as a teacher or administrator in several other districts. He was honored as the Wisconsin …

Art, please do not draw the conclusion that the board and administration do not listen to the citizens. When Dr. Schroeder became the Superintendent, he talked with many people and groups to identify the needs of the district. The one thing that was on the top of everyone's list was the age of the facilities. We spent three years validating the entire process with an architectural study, …   more ›

Muskego Middle Schools Undergo Scheduling Changes

Recommendations from a 30-member panel adopted and will include longer class periods, which many feel will help district to reach the 'every child' mark

Debate continued Monday night at the Muskego-Norway School Board meeting over the merits of changes proposed to middle school programming. The most distinctive changes include lengthening some class periods for math and science to allow for more in-depth instruction and additional help to students who need it. It also encourages writing across the curriculum to help students learn subjects better. The concept is that even in a math class, if a student is required to write their explanations, they develop a better understanding of the subject as they themselves have to verbalize it. Tammy Gibbons, Director of School Performance, led the committee of 38, which included teachers, parents and a few students, and said they were excited at the …

With you 'Mom. I don't know why Serdynski voted 'no'. Against the lack of time to consider or against the plan but the plan sounds like a logistical nightmare - no bells - some classes are 50 minutes some are 75. Ms. Konkel raises the point of the School Board being part time. Yes - part time and elected to make decisions. These commitees are not accountable to the tax payers, and parents, and if…   more ›

Muskego's Bay Lane Middle School One of Wisconsin's Best

Bay Lane receives honor from Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, which cites high marks in reading as reason for award.

Bay Lane Middle School was named as an Exemplary Middle School by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators. In a letter to Superintendent Dr. Joe Schroeder, AWSA said, "we applaud the leadership skills that you and the principal of this school have demonstrated," and that the school was being recognized for achieving reading scores in the top ten percent. In a week or two where the district has had to deal with bad news - a parent volunteer who was arrested for sexual assault and an accident Friday night that injured two students - the announcement was welcome.  It was also more indicative of the work that has been going on in the schools and throughout the district of late. The award will allow Bay Lane to apply for the Middle …

What do these two incidents have to do with Bay Lane much less it being recognized for achieving high reading scores? I was going to forward to our kids' grandparents until I read that part. Can't we ever just have some good news.   more ›

Muskego-Norway School Board Recap

Referendum information and election planning is finalized, with a decision on the Bay Lane Associate Principal held until the next meeting.

The Muskego-Norway School Board met Monday night, and discussed various aspects of the upcoming referendum special election, which will determine if the district will be able to move forward on a $30 million plan to build a new elementary school and renovate others. The board reviewed a draft of the mailer set to go out to all residents next week, which will closely mirror the information on the district's website. Dr. Joe Schroeder, superintendent for the district, said he hoped to stress the reduction in property tax impact of $52 from the last referendum proposal.  (The savings is based on the average home value in Muskego of $291,300.) Along with a mailer, the district's website will feature an informational video in the next couple of…

ACT Scores Reveal Progress in Muskego-Norway District

Just released numbers show growth in learning, called 'encouraging' by superintendent.

The 2011 ACT scores were released, and Muskego-Norway School District (MNSD) officials are pleased with the numbers. "Overall, these ACT results are very encouraging and the result of many hands involved in making this happen," said MNSD Supt. Dr. Joe Schroeder. Muskego's score put them in the top five of 20 Southeastern Wisconsin districts, with Whitefish Bay, Mequon-Thiensville, Elmbrook and Arrowhead topping the list. The results come on the backdrop of statewide data that saw the highest percentage of students taking the college entrance exam, according to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. State averages came in at 22.2 points (36 is a perfect score), about one point higher than the nationwide average. State schools …
