Drunk Driver Hits Teen Head On; Police, Parents Say Think Before You Drink

A head-on collision, and an increase in arrests over the past two weeks litter the police blog this week, prompting a plea from police to think twice before mixing alcohol or drugs with driving.

A 34 year old Muskego woman was arrested for drunken driving after striking another vehicle on Woods Road and Sandy Beach Drive on Nov. 6 and injuring the other driver, according to Muskego Police. The victim was a 19-year-old woman, and an email sent to police from her parents have prompted police to again stress the importance of thinking twice before deciding to drive after you've been drinking. "We had a number of incidents involving alcohol and driving in the last three weeks," said Lt. Dave Constantineau in his weekly newsletter. "Unfortunately, this is nothing new. Regretfully, many people still do not seem to get the message that drinking (or drugging) and driving can have tragic consequences." Constantineau said the woman would …

2 Waukesha Sheriff's Deputies Injured in Freeway Accident

Suspected drunken driver hits squad car parked in median on I-94 near Sunnsyslope Road in New Berlin.

Four people — including two Waukesha County Sheriff's deputies — were injured early Thursday when a driver crashed into a squad car parked on the median on I-94. The crash occurred at 2:40 a.m. near Sunnyslope Road when a man driving a Saab east on the freeway drove into the median and struck the back of a squad car that was parked there, the Wisconsin State Patrol said. A passenger in the Saab was transported by Flight for Life to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and two deputies in the squad were taken by ambulance to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. The driver of the striking car, an 18-year-old St. Francis man, was transported by ambulance to Waukesha Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to FOX6 News. FOX6 says the …

WisDOT Announces ‘Summer of Safety’ Initiatives to Reduce Crashes

Achieving zero deaths at the heart of a string of summer programs from the Department of Transportation

Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Secretary Mark Gottlieb announced today (May 25) an array of initiatives to make the upcoming months a “Summer of Safety” for motorists. In his remarks at a news conference in Milwaukee on Friday, Secretary Gottlieb noted that there has been significant progress recently in reducing the number of traffic fatalities in Wisconsin. Each year, from 2008 to 2011, Wisconsin had fewer than 600 traffic fatalities. The last time Wisconsin had fewer than 600 annual traffic fatalities four years in a row was in the mid-1920s when the number of vehicles and the miles traveled were a fraction of what they are today, according to WisDOT statistics. “But now we’re extremely concerned about increase in …
