National Signing Day: Muskego's Degner Commits to Augustana

The senior at Catholic Memorial will attend the NCAA Division III school in Rock Island, IL

Matt Degner of Muskego, a senior at Waukesha Catholic Memorial, signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday to play football at Augustana College in South Dakota. Degner was first-team All-Classic 8 Conference at offensive guard for the Crusaders, who cruised to the WIAA Division 3 state title, beating Waupaca 42-7 in the final. Augustana is an NCAA Division II school that has won 21 conference championships and was a powerhouse in the 1980s, winning four consecutive national championships. Degner was one of three Crusaders players to sign football letters of intent Wednesday. Mitch Meindel is going to North Dakota and Matt Hubley is headed to UW-Madison.

Live Blog Replay: WIAA State Championship, Catholic Memorial vs. Waupaca

The Crusaders are going for their first WIAA state crown in football, taking on two-time state champion Waupaca.

Waukesha Catholic Memorial won four state championships under the old private-school division, but seeks its first among all comers against Waupaca at 10 a.m. Friday in Madison in the WIAA Division 3 state championship game.
