Granted, we've heard and read our share of lousy news, but we're celebrating those stories that made us smile. Miss any? Click on the links to read on.
It's been a year full of news, and not all of it was the hard-as-nails variety. In fact, there's been plenty to celebrate and smile over. Remember these? A uniquely fun and entertaining way to spend a March evening, even if you just sat in the stands: If You Can Dodge A Wrench... The Muskego Chamber of Commerce made 2012's Jammin' on Janesville an opportunity to remember local organizations: Jammin' 2012 Set to Rock to the Beat of a Heart. There was a local business as well who stepped up to help Stacy Young, a woman who had helped out so many others with cancer: Area Business Helps Woman With Cancer Muskego Patch also welcomed back Jenny Addis, a voice from the past with an inspiring message to share in the aftermath of personal tragedy: …

With the Muskego Performing Arts Council as its nonprofit focus, August's Jammin' on Janesville celebrates the arts in music and song.
Organizers have noted in spite of cooler temperatures in June and the sizzling temperatures in July, each event for Jammin' on Janesville has grown in offerings and attendance. With perhaps the best weather of all three events forecast for Friday, August 3, the seasonal street party continues building Muskego’s new tradition of combining business with pleasure, according to the Muskego Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. “Our original intention of this event was to help the businesses located on Janesville Road endure challenges faced in the midst of the construction. Since then, I’d say this event has quickly morphed into one of the area’s largest, most attended gatherings of the year, with businesses and residents coming together for…
Patch was again out at Muskego's Jammin' on Janesville, but because we were so overwhelmed with folks signing up for our newsletter and getting to know us, we had no time to take any new pics! So now it's YOUR turn...
The last of the trilogy of summer - Jammin' on Janesville - was held Friday, and provided perhaps the best weather of all three. Despite humid and warm conditions, it was still about 10 degrees cooler than the July event. In June we were wearing jackets to stay warm (remember that?) ! It drew a great crowd, but in doing so, Muskego Patch's tent was buzzing. So rather than grabbing a spare moment to stroll and take pictures, we were busy answering questions, greeting our bloggers and avid readers, and introducing ourselves to some who still weren't aware we were here. That's where YOU come in....take advantage of our interactive platform and upload your photos from the fest. It's easy and it's a great way to see Jammin' on Janesville from …

Muskego's Teen Idol and Missoula Children's Theatre return for August, sponsored by Muskego's Performing Arts Council.
August is set to sing, dance and act once again as the Muskego Performing Arts Council plays a hand in bringing two favorite acts to the city stage. Muskego's Teen Idol is back for a sixth season, and will hold its first round of auditions at Bethel Lutheran Church as part of Jammin' on Janesville festivities. As in previous years, the event is overseen by the Muskego Teen Advisory Board, but MPAC was asked this year to assist in the production, something member Steven Krause said was a perfect fit. "Really, we are an organization of presentation and performance so this and although we've never done something like this before, I'd like to think it's a happy union," Krause, who is also a technical director at the Muskego Performing Arts …

Among the agenda items is a reconsideration on a vote to approve business zoning for pub on Janesville, which has divided residents on familiar lines.
After a thumbs up at the Plan Commission meeting on June 9, and a technical thumbs down at the Common Council meeting, DJ's future may take another turn on Tuesday. The pub has been at the center of debate for the past several weeks as it is seeking to be rezoned for a commercial use. The property it sits on has been residential even though there has always been a business in its current building, but it will be razed during Janesville Road construction. Rebuilding the pub and restaurant will require rezoning to a 'downtown revival' designation, which has had neighbors nervous over the impact. A 4-2 vote in favor of granting the rezoning on July 10 was not enough, as neighbors had filed a petition of protest requiring a three-fourths vote …

Crowds showed up late but were still enthusiastic to get out despite the challenging temperatures for Jammin' on Janesville's second appearance.
It was probably around 92 when the opening of the second Jammin' on Janesville launched Friday night, and at first it seemed like the heat had the festival beat. However, as the sun set and the breeze picked up a bit, it was apparent that people were just eager to get outside after all on a Friday night, and crowds swelled. Muskego Patch met many new readers and some who we should probably hire for promotions, and we thank everyone for stopping out to say hi and sign up for our newsletter. Enjoy the photo gallery, and if you were out and about during JOJ, part deux, we welcome you to upload your photos along with the pictures and video we caught.

'Biking for Hunger' invites cyclists to head west to help raise awareness of hunger in the city, as well as dollars and donations to the Muskego Food Pantry.
Jammin' on Janesville will no doubt draw a nice crowd again, and if you're worried about parking, why not bike it? In fact, while you're biking, why not join a group that will be gathering at St. Martin of Tours in Franklin to make a statement about the featured nonprofit, Muskego Food Pantry? Rodger Runyan is organizing a 'Biking for Hunger' event that will begin at the church's parking lot in Franklin, 7963 S 116th St., which also is next to the recreation trail. "We realize with the heat it may be tough for some people to bring food with them, in a backpack or otherwise, but we are also encouraging people to bring a monetary donation, which is a lot easier to carry," Runyan said. Any cyclists interested in making the 4.7-mile trek to …
