Gates May Close the Door on Vandalism in Parks

There's no perfect solution, board agrees, but leaving entrances open only invites trouble, so further study into cost for gates is hoped to alleviate vandalism at Park Arthur

Parks Director Craig Anderston was blunt. "Unless we agree to entirely fence in all of our parks, people will find a way to get in and cause damage," he told the Parks Board Monday night. At issue is vandalism at Park Arthur and other parks. An "off-roader" drove on the sledding hill on Oct. 24 and left tire ruts along the north side of the hill, marking the second such type of damage in the park in about a year, Anderson said. He also said a truck drove across the ball field at Jensen Park, and more remote parks, like Denoon Park, have been vandalized, too. Seems like a few game cameras or web cams focused on the entrances of the park should catch the people doing this damage. I hope the police catch the people doing this damage.   more ›

Parks Recap: Park Arthur Fundraising, Baseball Fees and Gaining Restitution for Vandalism

Baseball clubs note progress on fundraising for large field at Park Arthur, fees for traveling teams discussed, and other notes from Monday's meeting

Here's a roundup of other agenda items discussed at Monday's Park and Recreation board meeting: Jensen Park is awaiting repairs to a window that was smashed by vandals earlier this year; according to Parks Director Craig Anderson, two minors had confessed and agreed to each pay $187 in restitution, however no money has been received yet. Anderson said the department may take further action to collect the money if it's not received by June 14. A $10 per date usage fee will be assigned to traveling teams using Muskego baseball fields for the 2012 season. An agreement was approved for Pepsi vending machines in Idle Isle and Veteran's Memorial Parks. Previously, the agreement gave $5,000 per year to the department from the sale of beverages …
