The list of candidates was impressive and showed a lot of thought on your part. Amazingly, these are the runners up, all of them deserving in their own right for their heart and dedication to what they do.
There weren't a ton of responses to our call for who your Person of the Year would be, but the names that came in are all so deserving. Thanks to those who took a moment to name their candidates. I also want to thank the sweet reader who wanted to nominate me. However, while what I do is certainly more than a job to me, it pales in comparison to the following list: Rob Glazier - "Rob has served on the Community Development Authority for the past 10 years and is the current Chairman of that organization. He has been a very active leader in the Boy Scouts, various school district panels and committees," explained one reader. "You will also catch Rob at various committee and board meetings that he has no obligation to attend." Glazier was …

Car Show proceeds help the Muskego Senior Taxi program and the Muskego Food Pantry
The Muskego Corvette Club met Wednesday evening and presented checks to two local nonprofits totaling $1,350. The Muskego Food Pantry and Muskego Senior Taxi each received $675 from the club, which raised funds during its annual car show, which was held in August. Bill Schneider and Julie Frahman were on hand to accept the donations for the Senior Taxi and Food Pantry, respectively. Senior Taxi provides low-cost rides to area seniors to get to appointments in and outside of the city, and has been in existence for about six years. The Muskego Food Pantry has seen its own numbers grow in response to a lagging economy. Frahman told the group that so far in 2012, the pantry had served 2600 families in providing groceries, and will provide …

While many of their backpacks are filled, demand still exceeds supply.
As long as retailers are making it ridiculously cheap to stock up on some of the basics for school (there's always 10 cent notebooks somewhere), the Muskego Food Pantry is hoping you'll remember to grab a few extra items for kids in need. Julie Frahman, director of the pantry, said they will distribute the filled backpacks at their annual Back to School Bonanza on August 19, but before then they have to make sure everyone who needs one, gets one. "We've been fortunate to get backpacks from the Backpack Coalition, but there are still 10-12 families who we need to take care of," Frahman said. The list of supplies needed to fill a backpack aren't too different from what you'd put in your own kids, and include: Frahman said too much is also …

Director Julie Frahman recalls the early beginnings of the pantry about 2 years ago, and reminds everyone to keep others in your thoughts as you walk through the grocery aisles.
The following is a letter posted in the Muskego Food Pantry's newsletter, reprinted here with permission. As the holidays approach quickly and we move into November, I am reminded of years past at the food pantry. For our first Thanksgiving in 2009, we packed and provided dinners with turkeys for 20 of our families. In 2010, we had just moved into our new location and gave 40 of our families Thanksgiving dinner. This year, ... we already have 50 families on our list, and another 25 families have signed up with the Muskego Lions Club for their Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. As you can see, the need to help families in the Muskego area has almost doubled every year. During this time of year when everyone celebrates and gives thanks, …

A need to do more led Julie Frahman to organize food pantry, and it's clear she's found her calling.
Julie Frahman was not on some great quest for a higher purpose, but the words of her pastor struck a chord. The pastor mentioned a teenage girl who started a food pantry, and she thought, 'If she could do that, why not me?" That was five years ago, and the spark of an idea has now blossomed from a small room loaned by a local car dealership into a much larger facility in Muskego's business park, fueled largely, it seems, by Frahman's passion. Open one day during the week and every other Saturday, time to get things organized and ready for the 60-plus families who use the pantry can be chaotic. Frahman, however is the proverbial island of calm, fielding questions from volunteers, walk-ins, answering phones and just being the glue holding …

One of the nicest car shows in the area. I was glad to be a part of it.   more ›
