Kohl's 'Refresh' Gets OK

Facade will look different, but not by much in early 2013.

Agreeing that the new proposal from Kohl's architects was more in line with the design plan for the Moorland and Janesville Road commerce area, the Plan Commission gave its approval to move ahead with what officials at the retailer called a 'refresh' of their outside face. Jeff Muenkel, Director of Development with the city explained that new features helped continue the prairie style theme, including 'fins' in the front entrance columns, which helped to "create a layering effect using angles and other shapes seen in many Frank Lloyd Wright designs." In addition, the city will ask that four existing tower elements be re-clad with standing seam metal roofing to match other prairie buildings in the area, including the new Lakeshore Aurora …

Kohl's to Pitch a New Design, Again

Plan Commission will hear a new plan from Kohl's to refresh the exterior of the store.

After asking the retailer to try again with a proposed design earlier this year, the Plan Commission will see a revised proposal from Kohl's Department Store on Tuesday evening. The commission will meet at 6 p.m. in the lower level Muskego Room at City Hall. A "minor exterior façade refresh" at the existing operating Kohl's store located at the corner of Moorland Road and Janesville Road is being proposed similar to the previous go-round. No modifications to the existing building 'footprint,' structure, signage, sidewalks or landscaping are proposed as part of the plan. Shoplifting Call Turns Into Arrest for Weapons, Other Charges

Muskego Police report they found knife, wirecutters in shoplifting suspect's car, which he was driving under revocation

Muskego Police were called to Kohl's Department store in Muskego on Oct. 17 around 5 p.m. for a retail theft, but found much more once the suspect was arrested, according to police reports. Along with $117 in stolen items, police say the 33-year-old Muskego man also had an active warrant from Oneida County for a second OWI offense, and had been driving under revocation. Upon searching the man's vehicle, they also discovered wire cutters that the man admitted to using to cut tags, as well as a knife, the report stated. The man is now facing multiple charges in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

Kohl's 'Blushes' Again in Support of Fight Against Breast Cancer

It's not your imagination, the Kohl's Department Store sign is pink once again in support of Susan G. Komen's Race for the Cure.

The pink film has been placed over the Muskego Kohl’s Department Store to show support for the fight against breast cancer. Exterior store signs at 14 Milwaukee-area Kohl’s stores and Kohl’s corporate headquarters in Menomonee Falls are going pink in recognition of Kohl’s support of the Susan G. Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure® on Sunday, September 23. According to a release from the company, the signs will remain pink throughout the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Additionally, Kohl’s associates are being encouraged to wear pink from Sept. 17 – Sept. 22, the week leading up to the Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure, to show their support for the fight against breast cancer. Kohl's Hiring More Than 52,700 Associates Nationwide for Holiday Season

Kohl's said there will be roughly 41 seasonal positions available at every store across the country. Job openings will be filled by November.

Have you heard that jobs and the economy are an issue in the upcoming election? We all have, but the holiday season is just around the corner and that means plenty of job openings – at least seasonally. Kohl’s Corp. on Tuesday announced that it plans to hire more than 52,700 associates across the nation for the holiday season. That’s an increase of 10 percent as compared to last year. Kohl’s announced it will likely hire roughly 41 associates per store. The uptick in hiring is attributed to the retailer’s expanding Internet business. A Reward for Caring: Kohl's Names 82 Wisconsin Kids for Kohl's Cares Scholarships

Kohl's Cares Scholarships awarded to 82 area kids for volunteerism.

Kohl's Department Stores announced that their Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program will recognize more than 2,200 young volunteers nationwide who have made a positive impact in their communities through volunteerism. Eighty-two youth from Wisconsin will each receive a $50 gift card and recognition certificate from Kohl’s to honor their community service efforts. In 2012, Kohl’s celebrates its 12th year of rewarding remarkable young volunteers.   These winners qualify for the chance to receive a $1,000 regional scholarship for post-secondary education, which Kohl’s will award in July. Volunteer: Meals on Wheels, Childbirth Education and More

Looking for a way to give back to the community? The United Way in Waukesha County has these opportunities.

Help is always needed, and here are a few opportunities to give back, here in Muskego and throughout the county. The Muskego Senior Taxi folks are in need of drivers to volunteer for this vital program. As our population is aging but remaining active, the taxi provides a link to those who have appointments but can no longer drive. Interested in donating a few hours or more? Kohl's associate volunteers are teaming up with Boy Scout Troop 599 to clean up at Idle Isle Park and Veteran's Park. Wednesday, April 11 – An officer who gave a lost motorist directions around 12:30am, found it suspicious when he then saw that same driver going in the opposite direction the officer told him to go. Crime Corner: Stepped Up St. Pat's Patrols Net Drunk Drivers

Muskego Police report an uptick in activity along with the increase in temperatures, and credit the St. Patrick's Day increased enforcement for catching more drunk drivers.

Here is the weekly crime report from Lt. Dave Constantineau with the Muskego Police Department. Friday, March 9 - Wal-Mart reported that around midnight, 3 individuals entered the store. A male white subject in a light-weight Nike jacket took several game controllers and left in a dark sedan. The other two subjects left in a dark colored Dodge Ram Pick-up.
