Whatever your preferred form of entering the icy waters at Muskego County Park, it's for Special Olympics, and a lot of fun to boot. Here are the details to be a plunger or a chicken on Feb. 10.
Muskego County Park will again be the site of hundreds of crazily-clad 'plungers' who will risk their comfort (and perhaps their dignity) for a great cause as they dive into the park's pond. The 2013 Polar Plunge will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10 to benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI). Plungers consist of individuals and teams of people with a warm heart and a bit of a tough skin. If you can't imagine yourself leaving dry ground, you can still register as 'Too Chicken to Plunge' and you can raise pledges, earn incentives, and stay dry. Last year, just over 400 individuals participated in the Muskego Polar Plunge, raising more than $110,000 for SOWI. Muskego was also host for the first time for Special Olympics regional competition in…

Muskego's pubs have a local pub crawl Thursday night, but will also be open for your New Year's pleasure, as well as the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.
The party starts early in Muskego as the last big weekend of the year approaches, taking us nearly to mid week next week. Overall, tavern owners tell us it's not as big of a night as you would expect, so things are kept fairly low-key. If you feel like heading out to celebrate there are also a few options, beginning Thursday, but as in all things, be smart and be safe. Thursday, Dec. 27 - Holiday Pub Crawl 6:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Matty's Bar, Marx Pioneer Inn, JD's Pub, Danny Haskell's and Romey's in Franklin are all part of this annual local event, which allows you to 'bus it' between establishments. $20 New Year's Eve, Monday, Dec. 31 - AJ's Bar & Grill: plenty happening on the last night of the year, including a giveaway for an HD TV. …

The list of candidates was impressive and showed a lot of thought on your part. Amazingly, these are the runners up, all of them deserving in their own right for their heart and dedication to what they do.
There weren't a ton of responses to our call for who your Person of the Year would be, but the names that came in are all so deserving. Thanks to those who took a moment to name their candidates. I also want to thank the sweet reader who wanted to nominate me. However, while what I do is certainly more than a job to me, it pales in comparison to the following list: Rob Glazier - "Rob has served on the Community Development Authority for the past 10 years and is the current Chairman of that organization. He has been a very active leader in the Boy Scouts, various school district panels and committees," explained one reader. "You will also catch Rob at various committee and board meetings that he has no obligation to attend." Glazier was …

Retailers are responding with deals to help you celebrate your tax refund, or ease the pain of owing Uncle Sam.
Whether you are 'that guy' driving to the post office at 11:59 p.m. today to hand your return to the waiting worker standing outside, or you've already filed - and spent - your return by March, retailers haven't missed the opportunity to snag a little business. Most of the offers are from nationally-based chains, and a quick survey of local establishments in Muskego haven't netted (pun intended) any results. However, we'll update this list if we hear of any specials that need to be added.

Sure they are just the place you'd expect to find a margarita, but there are plenty of mixologists in town that can make tequila and lime juice sing; here's how voting shook out.
Our latest Readers' Choice poll for the best margarita in town resulted in a landslide victory for Tres Locos, a Mexican/South American restaurant located in Muskego's downtown. Posting an impressive 76 percent of the vote, they came in 65 votes ahead of their closest competition, Sauced. Coming in third was Matty's with 4 votes. It wasn't our most hotly contested poll - we'll blame politics for the distraction - but after all the debate this week, it's perhaps a good idea to try all the suggestions on the list, and enjoy the weekend!

Continued ridiculously nice weather continues to soften the edges of a Monday.
Click below to get your live, local information. In the event of something out of the ordinary, such as a major crash, Patch editors will update this as quickly and accurately as we are able. Patch editors recommend: Capping off the day with a little gourmet pizza at Matty's Bar & Grille to help out a local soccer team get to Lisbon, Portugal this April. From 5 to 9 p.m., Matty's will donate a portion of their proceeds to the PFC Academy Soccer Team. Muskego boy Dylan Grohall along with 17 of his teammates from around the area, will be participating in an international invitational tournament a few thousand miles from here. Support them and enjoy a great meal at the same time! (Matty's will be offering this opportunity again on March 25 …

Dylan Grohall, 11, is one of 18 members of PFC United team that will face opponents from Spain, Portugal in April
Brenda Grohall said her family was encouraged to enter her twin sons in a tryout for the Premier Football Concepts academy (PFC) team that would play in an invite-only tournament in Lisbon Portugal this April, if just for the experience. "We thought it would be a great opportunity to work with different coaches and learn new things," Grohall said. She told her boys that they needed to realize they may not make the cut, or that one but not the other would, and that they needed to be OK with that. However, when the call came from coach Michael Beatty that Dylan, 11, made the team, Grohall said they had to sit down as a family and think about it. "I had a lot of questions, so I called the next day and talked at length with the coach," she …

After spirited competition, there has to be a winner, and newcomer Sauced is voted best of fish frys.
In a week of polling, more than 1,000 votes cast determined that Sauced Restaurant was the best fish fry in Muskego. Sauced is one of Muskego's newest restaurants, but has won fans over for its inventive combinations on pizza, wings, and now fish frys, garnering 313 votes. The number of votes, coupled with enthusiastic comments from many of its customers made the decision an easy one. However, planning an evening out tonight may still be more difficult as the list of candidates shows it's an embarrassment of riches in Muskego. For many, it's not just about the fish, but the dishes that sit next to it on a plate. Coleslaw and potato pancakes seemed to get as many rave reviews for voters as the fish itself, which tells you we like our meals …
