Are you looking for a place to mountain bike in Waukesha? A new trail is opening soon at Minooka Park.
Editor’s Note: The following information was provided to Waukesha Patch via a news release from Waukesha County. Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas announced Monday the grand opening of the Waukesha County Park System’s first Mountain Bike Trail within Minooka Park. The first phase, approximately 1.5 miles, will open to residents on Saturday, June 1 (National Trails Day) at 9 a.m. following a ribbon cutting event open to the public. Once all three phases are complete, the network of trails will be about five miles in total length. They are located near picnic shelter 5, within Minooka Park, 1927 E. Hearing from residents in his own district, Muskego Alderman Dan Soltysiak asks parks board to reconsider how a dog park could figure into the mix.
With all of the changes to the landscape, including road projects and new recreational trails and a new park, is it time for Muskego to consider adding a dog park to its current recreational offerings? The issue has come up in previous Park and Recreation Board meetings, and was again put on the table Monday night as Alderman Dan Soltysiak explained he's been hearing from constituents that they see a need. Previous suggestions have been to take existing city parks that appear not to be used as much and place a dog park there. "I get emails all the time about dog parks, but I've never gotten one about a splash pad," Soltysiak told Parks Director Craig Anderson. Waukesha County Parks are ready to provide trails for skiing, hills for sledding and trails around the county for snowmobiling.
The Waukesha County Park System has over 25 miles of groomed and tracked cross-country ski trails, sledding hills, as well as snowshoeing and winter hiking trails. According to a release from Ginny Bocek, Parks Program Specialist, the county will be monitoring the snow conditions regularly in order to make sure the grooming process is started as soon as possible after or during our first snowfall. Once they have established packed and tracked trails, they will update the website. Cross-country ski trails: Menomonee Park, Menomonee Falls; Minooka Park, Waukesha; and Nashotah Park, Nashotah. I'm assuming it's free if you have a standard country park sticker thing... Is this a trail with tons of hills, jumps, etc or more jsut a dirt trail through the woods? And are there any maps or anything that show the trail, where it goes now, where it will go later, etc?   more ›
