Muskego Elections: Hammel Wins 2nd Aldermanic District Race

A voter turnout of 26.7 percent was about what was expected throughout Muskego, with the sole race for alderman in District 2 going to newcomer Bob Hammel

It's Easter break, and with light interest in the two statewide races for state superintendent of schools and Wisconsin Supreme Court, the citywide turnout was 26.7 percent. However, the percentage ticked slightly higher (27.8) in the 2nd District, which provided the only real race for an aldermanic seat. Bob Hammel won that election, besting William "Butch" LeDoux 416-159. Hammel is a personal lending officer with TCF Bank. He grew up in New Berlin, and has lived in Muskego since 1999 with his wife Jennifer and two sons. He submitted the following statement to Muskego Patch: "I want to thank the voters for their support and I am honored that the people of the 2nd district have the trust and faith in me to represent them. I had a lot of …

With the spring election on Tuesday, muncipal clerks' offices across the state - including Muskego - are required to be open on Good Friday. The clerk’s office at Muskego City Hall will be open for in-person absentee voting and other election details that day, but don't expect to use other services since all other offices will be closed. Personal Finances: Should They Be an Issue in Political Races in Muskego?

Two years ago, a candidate for mayor lost amid revelations he was delinquent on his property taxes; now a candidate in an aldermanic election is facing foreclosure on his home. Should it matter at the ballot box?

Luke Hudock was a mayoral candidate in 2011 when news broke that he had not paid his property taxes and was considered delinquent. Although it can't be said that this issue was the cause for his loss to Kathy Chiaverotti, some voters said they saw the financial trouble reason enough to worry about how he would handle city budgets. A similar issue has now arisen in the race in the 2nd District, as candidate William "Butch" LeDoux has been asked about apparent foreclosure proceedings with his home. LeDoux, who is running against Bob Hammel, told Muskego NOW, "I'm not going to lose my house," so he will be able to stay in the 2nd District. "The bank is working well with me to make sure I'm staying." Instead, he explained that the bank is the …

Then again, he may have corrected the issue or at least it has been settled to the point he could run for office. From what I can see this is a much different situation compared to Luke Hudock's. Also ask how this all came out?   more ›

We want to make sure you've got all the information you need before hitting the voting booth on Tuesday, April 2. In Muskego, the only local race featuring two candidates for alderman is in District 2, between William "Butch" LeDoux and Bob Hammel. The Muskego-Norway School Board has incumbents Brett Hyde and Rick Petfalski running again, and both are also unopposed. Several judicial races in Waukesha County are also solo efforts, with Mark Gundrum in Appeals, Michael O. Bohren in Branch 1 and Donald J. Hassin in Branch 9 running for their respective benches. Who's On April's Ballot: Rob Glazier, District 4 Aldermanic Candidate

4th District candidate

Rob Glazier was appointed as the 4th District alderman after the resignation of Keith Werner amid a recall effort in May 2012. Werner fell out of favor with residents in his district over his "yes" vote on the city's purchase of land to develop a lake park. Already the chairman of the Community Development Authority, Glazier said the decision to step in as the alderman for a district that was in some turmoil was not easy. "I had been concerned about the commitment, especially juggling it with family and scouting," he explained. Glazier is a leader with Pack 19 in Muskego, and also is in a leadership role at the district level for the Boy Scouts. However, using the very tenets of scouting including being trustworthy, helpful, courteous and …

Who's On April's Ballot: Eileen Madden, District 7 Aldermanic Candidate

After a four year hiatus from the Common Council, Eileen Madden returned to fill the remaining term of Noah Fiedler, and she hopes to see less tension in the next term

Eileen Madden is not a newcomer to the Muskego Common Council, but she admits the tenor of the debate she's seen since filling the vacancy of Noah Fiedler, who resigned from the council in 2012, has been a new experience. "I don't recall there being such anger in disagreements, and I'm hoping that in the next term we can go back to a council that can disagree and come to an understanding without such tension, but more teamwork," she explained. Madden served on the council from 2003 to 2007, having been defeated in 2007 by Fiedler. The seat was returned to Madden after the council appointed her from among other candidates, with Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti casting the tie-breaking vote in March 2012. "I've always enjoyed my time on council, and …

Agreed Denise, I can't say she has served me in any way good or bad. If it wasn't for Muskego Patch I wouldn't have known she took over for Noah. I do have to say I'm not fan of the proposed bike paths. It looks like a portion of the path or paths go through public hunting grounds is that accurate?   more ›

Decision in District 2: Hammel and LeDoux Vie for Seat on April 2

Bob Hammel and William 'Butch' LeDoux represent the only race in the spring aldermanic races in Muskego

Although four seats on the Muskego Common Council are up for election this year, only one is going to be contested. District 2 will feature a race between two men who seem to have a similar philosophy and interest in serving, with a key difference being in where each comes from. Bob Hammel is the newcomer in the Muskego governmental scene, and feels that will help bring a fresh perspective in how the common council can tackle issues in the next term. He told Muskego Patch that his background in finance is one that will bring a strong skills set to the council. In contrast, William "Butch" LeDoux has been steadily involved in Muskego committees, serving a term in 2001 in the district, and since appointed to various committees including the …

Leatherman. That is a low blow to attack someones financial situation when you do not know the story or the cause, so that right there makes it irrelevant. When LeDoux was alderman before he was one of the few on the council that put his personal thoughts and feeling aside and voted in a way that benefited the city as a whole and his constituents. For you to attack someone like that makes one …   more ›

Who's On April's Ballot: Robert Hammel, District 2 Aldermanic Candidate

Entering the only contested race on Muskego's April ballot, Robert Hammel says he's eager to be a voice for his district, but realizes it's not about making everyone happy

As a personal lending officer with TCF Bank, Robert Hammel said, "I've see what good finances are versus bad, and overall Muskego has kept its values fairly steady." He is hoping to take that experience in finance, along with an interest in community service, as the District 2 alderman in April. Hammel will face competition from Butch LeDoux, who has been involved in various committees in the city as well as a previous term as an alderman. However, he sees that as a plus. "I'd like to think being outside of the loop allows me to look at problems with a fresh perspective," he said. "It makes me a good voice for the district, although I know that you're never going to make everyone happy." "I like to understand why things are done a certain …

I have known Bob Hammel for more than 8 years. He has always given back to our community through different groups. We personally helped coach and mentor the youth of Muskego for six years together. I beleive he would be a good change for our city and would serve as good advocate for the voice of his district. Brian Bloomer   more ›
