The historic road will be officially opened with a ribbon cutting and celebration that will have runners lacing up, and a block party to offer music, food and more
The first week of June looks to be the week to celebrate in Muskego, and you can add another great event that's likely to start a new tradition on Pioneer Drive. A ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the reconstruction of the historic street will take place on Saturday, June 8 at 9:45 a.m., with a 5K run and walk and block party to follow at 10 a.m. The Muskego Chamber of Commerce along with numerous area businesses are sponsoring the day-long event. For those of you keeping score at home, that's the day after Jammin' on Janesville, and two days after Muskego's first farmers market (location is likely to be at Salentine) on Thursday. Runners will race at 10 a.m. starting and ending in Veteran's Park, with walkers to follow …

A roads recap reveals the opening of Pioneer Drive despite a wait for lighting, while the phase I Janesville Road project may take a little longer than planned.
Stripes may become everyone's favorite pattern, as they generally herald the end of road construction, and Pioneer Drive is now sporting yellow stripes of its own. Dave Simpson told the Public Works Committee Monday night that the road project is nearly complete, and through traffic will likely be allowed by Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. However, they are continuing to see a delay in the installation of streetscape lighting, which Simpson is asking to be completed by the city's Christmas parade in mid-November. Other road projects were discussed and include: Janesville Road - phase I is nearly complete, with the paving of the westbound (north side) lanes finished, with the exception of some intersections. Simpson explained concrete …

Progress will be marked in pavement for Pioneer Drive and concrete along Janesville Road; Tess Corners has completed utilities and will be ready to reconstruct
Dave Simpson, Director of Public Works recapped the status of the various road projects in the city. He reported that the Woods Road trail was being completed this week, as the last of the reconstruction work to the landscape was underway. That leaves the other three major zones in the city, which are also nearing their own milestones: Janesville Road - on schedule, with curbs being laid as early as the end of this week. Median monument work is also underway, and Simpson said overall the project has gone smoothly. Paving and road striping are still weeks away, but it's expected that the 1st phase will be done at the end of October. Additional plantings on the eastern half will likely wait until next year, Simpson said, to ensure their …

City roads are all making progress, some faster than others, with a wrap for some in October, November
If you had a "roads pool" at work to guess which of Muskego's road projects would get done first this year, listen up. Dave Simpson, director of public works, provided an update on their status and the estimated end dates Monday night during the Public Works Committee meeting. Janesville Road: The 2012 Phase I part of the project is on schedule and crews are continuing to grade the westbound lanes. Finishing work on the eastbound side includes installation of streetscape structures and some landscaping. Estimated completion: end of October. Pioneer Drive: After a brief halt to operations for the festival, work began again on Monday, with continued installation of water laterals, which should be completed by Wednesday, Simpson said. Curb …

Road project is nowhere near complete, but road crews will make way for crowds, traffic as the Muskego Community Festival nears, and schedule provides plenty to do.
One of Muskego's road projects has seen Pioneer Drive off limits for through traffic since June, but even though road crews won't be finished with the job, city officials confirm there will be access during the Muskego Community Festival. Adam Trzebiatowski with the city planner's office said that road crews will suspend work during the festival, which runs Thursday, August 23 to Sunday, August 26. Pedestrians and vehicles will be able to travel through the area, and some limited shoulder parking will be available. Additional parking is also available on the City Hall grounds, along Racine Avenue, and at the Old Settlement Centre adjacent to the grounds. Despite the construction, events will still provide plenty for festival goers to enjoy…

Pioneer Drive will close on Wednesday; Janesville Road will close this weekend for culvert installation, and changes along Woods Road herald trail construction.
There's no doubt: we're in the thick of construction season. Dave Simpson, Director of Public Works, offered this update Monday night during the Public Works Committee meeting: Pioneer Drive: the often-used shortcut between Racine Avenue and Janesville Road will be closed to through traffic as water main installation extending from Horn Field north to Janesville will begin. Simpson said that they had expected to be done by the Community Festival, but now will suspend operations from Thursday, August 23 to Monday August 27 to accommodate traffic. Work is not expected to be complete until sometime in September. Janesville Road: box culverts will be installed at Martin Road, prompting the weekend closure of Janesville. Work is scheduled from …

Signs posted mark progress, and a few detours in two major road projects in downtown Muskego.
Electronic signs have gone up indicating that Janesville Road will experience closures from 7 p.m. Friday, June 22 to 7 a.m. Monday, June 25. The sign may not be great news, but it does mark steady progress in the road project that has the eastbound lane of Janesville Road reduced to rubble and in places, an eight-foot dropoff. "Weather permitting, the contractor anticipates completing the installation of all storm sewer and water main associated with the current stage of the project by the end of this week," states the city's website. "They are also anticipating that the majority of the roadway base will be installed this week and that the drainage lines for the area under the new five-foot bike lane on the south side of Janesville Road …
